Our medium size allows faculty to teach seminars on a variety of topics with individualized mentoring in and out of the classroom. Graduate students work closely with faculty on research and themselves publish independent papers and win fellowships and awards. This productivity is complemented by a diverse group of students, many coming from around the world. In addition, by the time of graduation most of our graduate students will teach their own classes. We believe teaching is important part of a graduate education and serves our students well in an increasingly competitive job market. Our unique Thompson Summer Scholarship Research Program offers students the opportunity to engage in a genuine collaborative research project with selected faculty. Working with faculty on a variety of research topics, students maximize their potential by earning a competitive stipend and sharpening their research skills across the summer months. Courses And Degree Requirements

• This is a 36-credit-hour degree program that offers education in the classics of history and political science disciplines and individualized attention to each student’s particular area of interest.

• All students will be exposed to a broad foundation of History and Political Science, taking seminars in Historical Methodology, Themes in Global History, Themes in US History, American Government and Politics, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Constitutional Law, Foreign and Security Policy, and Political Theory.

• The elective courses are chosen by the student in consultation with the graduate advisor to create a program of study in which students may pursue approved courses in history and political science.

Master Of Arts In Political Science

The MA in Political Science at UMSL gives students a broad understanding of political science and a firm grounding in scientific-based inquiry into a variety of issues in politics. Students learn how institutional design and economic and cultural factors shape the distribution of power, as well as patterns of cooperation and conflict in society within international, national and regional settings. And students learn how to communicate those scholarly insights to policymakers and the general public.

The MA Political Science is also offered in the 2+3 program format. This unique 2+3 dual degree program provides a pathway for students to earn both a bachelors and a masters degree in political science with fewer total credit hours than would be required to complete each degree independently. Once all requirements have been met, students will be awarded both a BA and an MA, and are able to enter the job market with a competitive edge.

Master Of Arts In Government

The MA program provides coursework in each of the major fields of political science and prepares students for a variety of careers in teaching, public service, and the private sector, as well as for further graduate study. Most courses are scheduled in the evening, with the program taking approximately two years to complete.

Master Of Research In Political Science

The European Master in Government is the double degree programme offered by the Department of Political and Social Sciences of Pompeu Fabra University and the Department of Political Sciences and Administration of the University of Konstanz.

• Students spend one year at each university and write a joint Master thesis. All classes are taught in English.
• They receive a master’s degree diploma from each one of them .
• Students can start the programme either in Barcelona or in Konstanz. They should register in the University in which they want to spend the first year.

In the year spent at Pompeu Fabra University, students follow the normal programme of the Master of Research in Political Science. Most regulations and characteristics of that programme apply also to students of the European Master in Government, with the following exceptions:
