Hes on a mission to connect them through a program called Lifeline.
The program is a terrific program, its been around since Ronald Reagan hes the one who started the program back in the 1980s and its been hugely successful, but the vast majority of United States does not know about it, further explained Johnson.
Lifeline started out as a way to offer low-income Americans a wired phone line at a steep discount, but in recent years, the focus has shifted to wireless service with phones and monthly service free for the asking.
I visited with Johnson at his companys headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles. TruConnect is the 4th largest Lifeline provider in the United States. They sign up customers and in exchange, the government pays them a stipend for managing the service.
The one stipulation: you have to use the phone at least once a month to keep the service active.
