The Secretarys Honors Program Cyber Student Intern Program is for current undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a program of study in a cybersecurity-related field. Selected students learn about the DHS cybersecurity mission, complete hands-on cybersecurity work, and build technical experience in key areas such as digital forensics, network diagnostics, and incident response. Additionally, students participate in mentoring and professional development activities with DHS managers and senior leaders from across components.
House Passes Bill To Establish Job Codes For Software And Data Work
Amid the last-minute efforts to fund the federal government and temporarily avert a shutdown, the House also agreed to legislation that would update or create new job series for federal employees working in software and data positions.
The House voted 416 to 9 to pass legislation that would give the Office of Personnel Management 270 days to create one or more occupational series for federal positions in the fields of software development, software engineering, data science and data management.
Currently, federal technology positions can be classified under the computer science, computer engineering, information technology management and IT cybersecurity specialist series.
The federal governments current recruiting efforts related to computer technologies too often focus on research and development skills, and not enough on the practical application of that specialized knowledge, Rep. James Comer, R-Tenn., said at the May committee hearing on the bill.
The ability to recruit and retain qualified software and data professionals is increasingly important, particularly as our government and private sector must withstand more frequent and sophisticated cybersecurity threats, he added.

BackgroundOf the 187 million living in Africas most populous country, only about 30% have had their births registered this figure drops to 19% in rural areas and to 7% within the poorest quintile of the population. Less than 50% of residents have any form of ID card, whilst only 9% of individuals have a national ID number . Based on the Global Findex Survey results of 2018, 33% of those who do not have ID cite that it is too difficult to obtain, whilst approximately 20% cite a lack of supporting documentation.
Nigeria hosts a fragmented ID landscape which incurs significant costs on the Federal Government . Over 13 government agencies and at least 3 state agencies offer ID services in Nigeria. Many of these agencies capture biometrics and issue ID cards independently without data links with other systems, resulting in duplication and sub-optimal utilization of scarce resources.
