Are Uhaul Trucks Allowed On Parkways

Truck driving jobs are in demand

One of the reasons moving equipment is considered commercial, is that it is branded with a company name, such as U-Haul. According to NYC DOT, commercial vehicles, trucks and tractor trailers are not allowed on New York State parkways. The image below shows some of the parkways that are open or closed to commercial vehicles.

Truckingtruth’s View On Swift Transportation Company Driver Pay

The payment structure at Swift leaves a bit to be desired, only because its a complicated scale. Pay is based off of the length of haul and geographical region for any given load assignment. While starting pay out of training is fairly low compared to other motor carriers, there are more raises in the first year than usual .

We always recommend you stick it out with your first company for a minimum of 1 year, and by that time, your pay will be right about average compared to the industry standard.

No pets are allowed on any company equipment.

What is the companys rider policy?

Drivers are allowed to have 1 rider at a time at least 12 years of age or older. If the rider is school aged, they may not ride while school is in session. Females cant be knowingly pregnant and ride in the truck. An annual $100 insurance fee is deducted via payroll deduction on a monthly basis.

Why Does Companies Like Tmc Have A Mph Of 62 When

Topic 19949 | Page 1

  • Why does companies like TMC have a mph of 62 when….

Ok so this has boggled my mind for months since even looking at companies, how companies like TMC, Prime, C.R. England have this INCREDIBLY LOW speed limit of 62 mph. Like why do they think we are safer at 62 mph then at the speed limit that EVERYONE is going? I swear, I have had cars and trucks come fingernail close to hitting my truck. It is so irritating.

Yes I know I am working with Swift and although Swift is a great company to work for their CSA score isn’t that great I would think that they would be able to raise their speed limiter to 65 at the very least.

Colorado Adds 24 Foot Wide Swift Trucks Only Lanes

Swift Transportation Switches to SmartDrive Video Safety ...

The Mile High State seems the have some mile high ideas about preventing traffic accidents. Govenor Polis introduced the Swift Safety Measure last week to provide a dedicated 24 foot wide lane for Swift Drivers. These lanes are lines with recycled rubber tires akin to a go kart track, as well as easy to read signage with small words.

This measure comes after the 297 car pileup caused by a Swift driver trying to do a U-Turn along interstate 25 last week. In previous months, Swift trucks have flipped trailers, ran over highway dividers, and attempted to jump the Royal Gorge. Studies by the Colorado Department of Trucking indicated that over 95% of accidents involved Swift drivers.

In additon to wide lanes and friendly signage, a CDOT driver will be stationed every half mile to assist drivers. They can asist drivers with driving within the lines & providing emotional support. Planning for all events, the measure also created a dedicated Swift Recovery Team to remove wrecked trailers and trucks from the interstate.

How Is It Legal For Company Trucks To Be Governed At Different Speeds

Topic 25855 | Page 1

  • How is it legal for company trucks to be governed at different speeds?

For the past few months Ive been realizing other company trucks have been passing me on flat ground going 3mph faster. The drivers even admitted to me their company trucks are governed higher.

When I bring it up with management they insist all trucks are governed at the same speed.

How can they not know? And how can they get away with it? I would think this would qualify as insurance fraud as the insurer covers them for only one governor speed.

This company has been decent, but this reeks of dishonesty, and Ill probably be looking at other companies, because they refuse to acknowledge the facts and refuse to turn my truck up. We run like 80% of on duty time at maxed out speed, so I figure these guys running 3mph faster are making north of $250 more than me per month for the same amount of drive time.

Ive got 2 yrs experience. Any recommendations for companies with passenger program?

Truck Speeds Set To Be Governed: More Insights Into Proposed Dot Rule

Note: This story is part of Overdrives ongoing coverage of the proposed speed limiter mandate, issued Friday, Aug. 26 by the U.S. DOT. Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months for more coverage and analysis.

Sometime within the next few years, truck speeds will likely be electronically governed to somewhere between 60 and 68 mph, at least if the U.S. DOT has its way.

Two of the Departments sub-agencies the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration have teamed up to produce a rule that will at least cover all new trucks, if not a large swath of trucks already on the road today. It will require carriers to activate or install speed-limiting devices on their trucks engines, with the maximum speed set at whatever the DOT prescribes in its final version of the speed limiter rule.

In its long-awaited rule proposal, issued Friday but as yet unpublished in the U.S. Federal Register, NHTSA and FMCSA asked industry stakeholders and the public at large to weigh in on the rule.

The agencies did not formally propose a top speed to which trucks should be limited, but they did issue analysis on three speeds: 60, 65 and 68 mph. FMCSA and NHTSA say they hope to receive feedback from trucking stakeholders about the three speeds or any others that could work as the final limited speed.

Truckingtruths View On Swift Trucking School Training Itinerary

Swift Transportation $100 Million settlement in class action

The duration of CDL training is about on par with other company sponsored programs. Its a very fast paced CDL course and you should expect a lot of information and learning in a very short period of time, so be prepared. The number of hours spent both in the classroom and driving trucks are comparable to the other company sponsored CDL programs weve reviewed.

Also note the very early schedule. We were told classes usually start at 5am and you do not want to be late to class. Its extremely important to arrive on time each and every day.

Training pay and training duration is very comparable to other company training programs. We find that 4 to 6 weeks of training is the sweet spot as far as training duration is concerned and Swift fits right into that time frame.

Its also good to see that the first week of training, the truck is dispatched as a solo operation. Many other companies start their trainees off in a team dispatched truck right away.

Truckingtruth’s View On Swift Transportation Dispatching Policies

A couple things to note here is the high percentage of drop and hook freight and the driver comfort zones. While drop and hook freight allows for less time sitting to be loaded or unloaded, the comfort zones also offer a more regional feel. Staying within a comfort zone will not change the standard OTR home time policy.

But it will allow you to drive in a region your more comfortable with and give you peace of mind that youre close to home in case of an emergency situation. Please note, however, that drivers arent guaranteed to stay within the comfort zone. The way it was explained by a recruiter is that they make their best attempt to keep you within that zone, but you are still considered an OTR driver with availability to carry freight nationwide.
