Students attending one of the American Association of Cosmetology Schools can apply for the Farouk Systems Cosmetology Scholarship. Maximum Lifetime Limit For Student Aid
There are lifetime limits on the number of weeks you can receive student aid. This includes interest-free periods while you are in school. Once a lifetime limit has been reached, interest starts to accumulate. You will also have to start paying back the loan 6 months after you graduate or finish your studies.
Full-time students can receive student aid for no more than 340 weeks, except:
- students enrolled in doctoral studies can receive student aid for up to 400 weeks
- students with permanent disability can receive student aid for up to 520 weeks

Many students receive pell grants to receive a traditional 4-year Bachelors degree. What you may not know, however, is that there are also pell grants for cosmetology school.
Pell grants help low-income students cover the cost of their education. There are minimum income requirements that students need to meet to qualify, but that is the only requirement.
Pell grant eligibility is available to all students heading off to college, as long as they meet the income requirements and are attending an accredited cosmetology or beauty school.
Beauty School Accreditation And Federal Student Aid Eligibility
When looking for a cosmetology, esthetics, massage, or another similar program, check into the schools accreditation status. The schools accreditation status determines federal financial aid eligibility.
Every loan, scholarship, or grant you apply to will have different requirements. However, the federal government has some pretty strict expectations everyone must meet for federal financial aid, including, but not limited to, citizenship or legal residency, a GED or high school diploma, and enrollment in or acceptance to an eligible school.

For most students pursuing barber or cosmetology careers, financial aid is the way to get into school and get your education paid for. Before you apply to a cosmetology school, barber school, or any other academic program beyond high school, check to validate the accreditation status of the school. Some companies in the beauty industry offer tuition reimbursement, which could be called a “sign-on bonus,” for future employees if the applicants agree to work for them for a minimum time period. Typically, you’ll interview with these companies while you’re still attending school and sign a contract guaranteeing employment and a certain amount of tuition reimbursement pending you earning your license.
