Maryland Receives $68M To Help With Affordable Housing

We are currently offering a number of special incentives to full-time students, recent graduates and first year associates, which we hope will persuade you to visit The Lansburgh.

For all recent graduates, full-time students and First Year Associates, The Lansburgh is pleased to offer the following incentives:
  • Waived application fee. You, and your co-signer, will not be charged the $75 application-processing fee.
  • $250 off your first months rent. Your first full month of rent will be reduced by $250.00 on unfurnished apartments on 12 month leases.
  • $500 move-in fee waived.

In order to qualify, you must have a current Student ID from a college or university. You must also provide a copy of your class schedule or transcript for the current semester showing at least 12 credit hours. All recent graduates are eligible within 180 days of graduation. A copy of your ID and class schedule must be included with your rental application. First Year Associates must present a firm offer letter. All other rental requirements with The Lansburgh must be satisfied.

After Renting Or Purchasing An Iz Home

  • Households living in an IZ home may not rent out or sublet any part of the IZ home for any length of time.
  • Renters of an IZ home must prove residency, household size, and income each year.
  • Owners of an IZ home must prove that the home is their primary residence each year.
  • Owners of an IZ home who wish to sell/refinance must submit a Resale Price Request to DHCD and wait for a pricing letter.

Apply For Public Housing

To apply, contact your local PHA. Heres what you can expect during the application process.

Either you or a PHA representative will fill out your written application. Your PHA usually needs to collect the following information to determine eligibility:

  • Names of all people who would be living in the unit, their sex, date of birth, and relationship to the family head
  • Your present address and telephone number
  • Conditions that might help your family’s reception into the program more quickly, including:
  • Current residency in substandard housing
  • Names and addresses of your current and previous landlords to verify your family’s suitability as a tenant
  • An estimate of your family’s income for the next 12 months and the sources of that income
  • The names and addresses of employers, banks, and others to verify your income, deductions, and family composition
  • Someone from your PHA may visit you in your home to interview you and your family members to see how you manage the upkeep of your current home.

    After collecting this information, the PHA representative should describe the public housing program. They’ll go over its requirements and answer any questions you may have.

    A PHA representative will ask for documents including birth certificates and tax returns. The PHA uses these documents to verify the information on your application. The PHA may also talk to your employer and your other references. You will be asked to sign a form to authorize the release of information to the PHA.

    The DHCD waiting lists the following Project-Based Voucher programs are open:

    The DHCD waiting lists for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and the Project-Based Voucher Program for Dunfield Townhomes are closed effective July 15, 2018, and will remain closed. DHCD will not be accepting any preliminary applications for these programs until further notice.

    Families with the earliest date and time of application are served first. When families are selected from the waiting list and determined eligible, they receive a Housing Choice Voucher Program rental subsidy.

    How To Get Help Paying Rent

    If you need help paying your rent, contact your state housing finance agency or your local public housing agency office. You may qualify for government programs to get help with your rent payments.

    Even if you don’t qualify for rental assistance through these agencies, they may be able to refer you to a community organization that can help. You may also search for and contact community or nonprofit organizations in your area. They may help you directly or offer you referral information.

    Home Investment Partnerships Program

    The HOME Program provides rental and homeownership opportunities to low and very-low-income persons and families by increasing the stock of decent, safe, and sanitary affordable housing.

    In accordance with Baltimore City’s Consolidated Plan, which is updated every five years, DHCD uses HOME Program funds as gap financing for the hard costs of construction in projects of five or more units. Funds are normally limited to $30,000 per unit. These limits may be exceeded, up to the HOME Program regulatory limits, for good reason and at the sole discretion of the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Housing and Community Development. Rental projects and projects providing for-sale housing for income-eligible homebuyers are eligible and may be rehabilitation or new construction. Assistance will be structured on a flexible basis. Developments will be expected to repay HOME loans if superior debt allows and/or on a cash flow basis.
