On February 6, 2018, Africa Program Director Dr. Monde Muyangwa gave a presentation to the 2018 Cohort of Excellence in Government Fellows about effective management skills and leadership. Participants in the EIG programwhich promotes leadership and ingenuity in solving complex 21st century challengesengaged with Dr. Muyangwa on lessons learned from her leadership and management experiences alongside her colleagues Mr. Michael Forster, Chief Operating Officer of the Wilson Center, and Dr. Michael Sfraga, the Director of the Polar Initiative. Dr. Muyangwa offered her perspective on the values that drive visionary leaders, gave an overview of the resources that she has drawn from in her own leadership development, and identified key leadership challenges and ways to overcome said challenges.

Charles B Rangel International Affairs Fellowship Program

For those who want to become Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State, the Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program provides benefits of up to $95,000 over two years toward a two-year masters degree, arranges internships on Capitol Hill and at U.S. embassies, and provides mentorship and professional development support. Fellows can use the fellowship to attend two-year masters programs in U.S. institutions to study any area of relevance to the Foreign Service. Applicants must be college seniors or graduates looking to start two-year graduate programs in the fall, must have GPAs of at least 3.2, and must be U.S. citizens.

Senate Undergraduate Session Assistants Program

The Senate Undergraduate Session Assistants Program offers approximately 30 talented undergraduate students from accredited New York State universities and opportunity to experience state government and the legislative process, through their participation in an on-site, academic enriching, and career building work experience. The Program runs about 4 months, beginning in early January and ending in late April. Majors in all accredited disciplines are accepted and encouraged. Typically, 15 credit hours are awarded by most participating SUNY, CUNY, and independent colleges and universities, and students receive a $5,025 stipend.

Excellence in Government Fellows Program

The Ringer Honors Program offers 18-24-month paid fellowships for attorneys in the initial stages of their careers who demonstrate promising ability and interest in copyright law . Ringer Fellows work closely with senior attorneys and others in the Office of the General Counsel , the Office of Policy and International Affairs , the Office of the Register and/or the Registration Program Office on a range of copyright-related law and policy matters. The Program accepts applications from individuals who are in their final year at a U.S.-accredited law school or have graduated from such a law school within the 5-year period preceding their application date. Ringer Fellows serve as full-time federal employees and are eligible for salary and benefits.

State Policy Fellowship Program

State Policy Fellows spend two years with an influential state-based policy organization or with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, DC. Fellows research and write analyses on current policy issues brief policymakers, journalists, and others on these issues and serve as a resource for advocates and community groups. Candidates must have received a graduate degree in public policy, public affairs, economics, social work, public health, or a related field within the past year. Fellows receive a salary and benefits.

Department Of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship

The DOE NNSA LRGF is open to U.S. citizens engaged in full-time study toward a doctoral degree at an accredited U.S. university. The fellowship requires a university program of study that includes courses in the physical, engineering, mathematical and/or computer sciences. Fellows must also complete a minimum of two 12-week laboratory residencies at one of four approved NNSA facilities. Benefits include a $36,000 yearly stipend payment of full tuition and required fees during the appointment period at any accredited U.S. university an annual $2,000 academic allowance for research or professional development expenses, and more.

This two-year fellowship provides recent bachelors degree recipients with a unique opportunity to use their critical thinking and analytic skills to work on a diverse set of challenges in science and technology policy areas. Fellows will be involved in collaborative research for leaders in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President and other Federal Government organizations. Fellows work with teams of researchers to support a wide variety of S& T policy-related tasks. Individuals who earned a recent bachelors degree are eligible to apply for the Fellowship. The fellowship is a paid, benefits-eligible position.

Leadership In Government Fellowship

The Open Society Foundations Leadership in Government Fellowship Program was founded in 2016 to support former senior-level government staff in the United States and its territories who have recently left public service and have played a significant role in advancing social change from within government in the U.S. and its territories at the local, state, or federal levels. Fellows propose a project, which must relate to one or more of U.S. Programs four central goals: justice system reform , strengthening democratic practice, equality for racial minorities and immigrants, and economic advancement. Fellows will receive a stipend depending on work experience, seniority, and percentage of time committed to the project, which will range from 12-18 months in duration.

National Biosafety And Biocontainment Training Program

The NBBTP offers two-year Masters and post-doctoral fellowships at the NIH Bethesda Campus providing a rare opportunity to receive professional training in biosafety and biocontainment at one of the foremost biomedical research centers in the world. Fellowships provide an extraordinary learning environment and rigorous program including academic training, experiential learning, mentorship, developmental assignments, and applied occupational safety and health research opportunities. NBBTP Fellows do not engage in any primary patient care activities. Fellowships are funded and offered in one-year increments. Running Start Congressional Fellowship

Each spring and fall, eight Running Start Congressional Fellows are selected through a highly competitive application process. Running Start is nonpartisan and looks for applicants from across the political spectrum for this program. Fellows intern for a female Member of Congress Monday through Thursday and each Friday are trained by political experts in Running Starts office and then mentored by high level political mentors. Fellows live together in a house on Capitol Hill, free of charge, and are provided with a $2,500 living stipend for the semester.

The Rose Award provides for an academic year residency focusing on hydrogen safety and fuel cell technologies at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA. Awardees will receive a stipend of $25,000 to $35,000 for full program, health insurance, round-trip travel to Washington, D.C. for a 3 week orientation seminar conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy and following travel to Richland. Awardees will also receive a professional development subsidy for attendance at one professional conference. Fda Office Of Business Informatics Innovation Fellowship

The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Business Informatics is looking for experienced IT professionals and business informatics specialists with strong communication and decision-making skills for the Office of Business Informatics Innovation Fellowship Program. The position requires that fellows perform work of an exceptional degree of difficulty across a wide range of topics at the convergence of technology, process, policy, and delivery. The incumbent leverages his/her experience, deploying high-quality, enterprise-wide platforms and services to lead major initiatives consults on systems and policy proposals and provides technical, policy, and programmatic guidance to government.

Nership Graduates Excellence In Government Fellows

The Partnership for Public Service has announced that 200 federal employees from 26 agencies have graduated from its Excellence in Government Fellows program, designed to strengthen leadership skills of GS-14 and GS-15 personnel.

It said the program combines innovative coursework, best practices benchmarking, challenging action-learning projects, executive coaching and government-wide networking and that graduates worked with agency executives to tackle complex issues throughout the program.

“Stay committed, remain passionate about your calling to service and always feel incredibly proud about the difference you make every single day in the lives of our fellow Americans,” said NASA administrator Charles Bolden in an address at the final session.

Applications for the fall 2013 program will close September 27. Those interested can complete an online application providing background information, a resume, a supervisory recommendation and an essay. The Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship is an opportunity for students to pursue an IT-related degree and launch a career in the U.S. Foreign Service as an Information Management Specialist. Fellows receive up to $37,500 annually for their junior and senior years in an IT-related undergrad program, or for a two-year masters program. Designed specifically for the federal workplace, EIG is an immersive program that places fellows in cohorts to enable new networking and learning opportunities with government leaders.

1. Program Structure

  • Cohort-based learning: Fellows are placed in cohorts of 25-30 government leaders led by an experienced executive coach.
  • In-person sessions: EIG consists of six, multi-day sessions spread across the year. Each of our six sessions are three to four days, providing fellows with an immersive experience that leaves ample time to digest program content and build lasting relationships. Multi-week breaks between sessions enable fellows to reflect on program content, apply lessons on the job and identify real-life challenges to workshop in the future.
  • Three virtual sessions: In between sessions, EIG also offers three, two-hour virtual cohort check-ins so that fellows can continue to learn, discuss their progress and stay connected.
  • Two 1:1 coaching sessions: Fellows also receive two individual, one-hour sessions with their executive coach. During this time, fellows use a 360 leadership assessment tool to delve deeper into their leadership development needs.

  • Governors Fellows Program In Louisiana Government

    A Partnership with Louisianas Office of the Governor, the Lamar Companies,Louisiana State University, Southern University and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation

    The Governors Fellows Program in Louisiana Government is an opportunity for college and university student leaders to experience public policy in action, learn the rich history and current affairs of Louisiana government, and earn three hours of academic credit through LSUs Department of Public Administration.

    Each Fellow is assigned to a cabinet-level agency in Baton Rouge. Fellows will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by collaborating with agency leaders on existing projects, observing firsthand the Governors leadership strategies and learning how state policies are developed.

    Fellows will also participate in a weekly speaker series, regular academic courses scheduled by LSU, and trips through Louisiana designed to enhance their overall experience and understanding of state government and current affairs.

    Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program

    The Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program is a non-partisan program that immerses students from public and private universities in key areas of state government. During their 9-month tenure in Tallahassee, fellows receive advanced on-the-job training as well as an invaluable front-line view of the inner workings of government. This program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students in Florida State. In order to maintain full-time status, students take courses at Florida State University, online courses, or fulfill internship and directed independent study requirements.

    Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program

    The Mansfield Fellowship Program was established to build a corps of U.S. federal government employees with proficiency in the Japanese language and practical, firsthand knowledge about Japan and its government. Through their placements, fellows develop networks of contacts in Japan and an understanding of the political, economic and strategic dimensions of the U.S.-Japan relationship. The fellowship is for 1 year, beginning with a 7-week course of intensive language study and followed by 10 months of full-time work in Japanese government offices. Fellows are required to serve at least 2 years in the federal government after the fellowship.

    Robertson Foundation For Government Fellowships

    The RFG Fellowships fully fund masters degrees in international relations, policy, and related fields at select partner universities. Individuals interested in a fellowship may apply to one or more of RFGs partner schools. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have functional fluency in a foreign language . Fellows agree to the fellowship requirement to work for the federal government for a minimum of three of the first seven years after graduation.     The Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowships provide full funding to graduate students as they prepare to join the U.S. Foreign Service as diplomats. Fellows are funded $37,500 per year to help cover tuition costs first then room and board, books, mandatory fees and travel, pending availability of funds. Graduate-level Fellows receive stipends during participation in one 10-week domestic summer internship, and one 10-week summer overseas internship following the second year of graduate school. Fellows must obtain graduate degrees in international affairs or a related subject such as public administration, public policy, international relations, business administration, economics, history, political science, communications, or foreign languages at a graduate school approved by the Pickering Program.

    Fellows select assignments in Congressional offices or federal agencies. This is a year-long opportunity, beginning September 1 and ending August 31. AAAS seeks candidates from a broad array of backgrounds and a diversity of geographic, disciplinary, gender, and ethnic perspectives, as well as disability status. Fellows have ranged in age from late 20s to early 70s. They represent a spectrum of career stages, from recent PhD graduates to faculty on sabbatical to retired scientists and engineers.     The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program provides undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students with opportunities to gain hands-on research experience with the Department of Energys Office of Fossil Energy . The goal of the MLEF program is to improve opportunities for women and minority students in STEM majors, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. Selected candidates will train under the mentorship of program officials and scientists on focused research projects.
