Harbor Garage Across From The Aquarium

5 Investigates exposes sweet parking deal mismanaged by state

The good news: Harbor Garage remains open sort of at this time.

The bad news: The garage may not remain open for long, if the current proposal for a 42-story, 600-foot skyscraper gains approval. At this time, redevelopment plans do not appear to include any public parking. And with possible development on the horizon, the garage appears to have not been maintained for quite awhile.

Although Harbor Garage is one of the most expensive Boston parking garages near the North End if you use the regular daily rate, it does offer convenience. Especially in bad weather or if youre taking your young children to the Aquarium or IMAX Theatre, both of which are just a few steps away, youll appreciate how close it is.

Entering the garage, you insert your credit card in the machine rather than taking a ticket. Then when youre leaving, just insert your card again to pay.

Harbor Garage used to offer free battery starting and tire inflating/changing services but those services no longer seem to be available.

Helpful Tip for: Parking Garages

One or more parking garages are present in Boston. A parking garage is a place where the vehicle is parked or kept on a temporary basis. At the present time, to save space, multi-storied parking garages are constructed, with or without automated systems. Parking can be quite difficult during peak hours on the side of the roads or otherwise. A parking garage provides the space, and charges are based on the duration of usage. The term used for such garages is parking structure. It can be either an open or a closed structure.

Tips For Scoring Discounts On Boston Monthly Parking

Before you get started, heres some background information if youre looking to save money.

1. Be flexible about location to save over $300 Some areas of Boston are considerably more expensive for monthly parking than others.

Consider looking in a 5-block radius of your ideal location for the best luck at getting a lower rate. The closer you get to downtown Boston, the more expensive it will be. Check on public transportation availability near your monthly parking spot.

2. Dont pay for more access than you need If you dont use your car every day, dont pay for a monthly parking spot with unlimited in and out access. There are usually different rates for different access levels. Ask your parking provider about discounts for infrequent use. We recommend negotiating here.

3. Ask about timing discounts If your parking needs are the opposite of most people in the area, you might be able to get a discount from the garage.

For example, if you live in the Financial District, where many people drive to work, but you only need parking during nights and weekends, you might be able to get a cheaper monthly rate. It never hurts to ask!

4. Book a spot online To make sure youre getting the best Boston monthly parking deal and saving time, we recommend comparing your options with an online parking service. Many of the spots listed online are already discounted, and their location and accessibility are also described online.

Parking In Boston Near City Hall Or Massachusetts State

I don’t seem to be typing the right info..to get the info on the internet. But an aha moment came to me – ask you!!!

Does any one have any recommendations for reasonable parking garage that won’t cost an arm and a leg . I should be pulling into Boston at 4:00 PM and leaving 7-8 PM…

Destination is actually Massachusetts State House on Beacon and Park Street. I need to stop at City Hall on my way the State House. I am driving into Boston coming down I93 and was thinking of parking near City Hall.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Near CIty Hall, the Government Center Parking Garage usually has reasonable rates although in terms of parking rates nothing in the daytime during the working week is inexpensive in

You might also try the Boston Common parking garage. They charge $16 total for up to three hours, or $18 for up to 9 hours. That’s definitely better than $19/hr.

Also, if there’s any way you can postpone your trip until 5:00pm, you can park at the PI alley parking garage at the corner of School St. and Washington St., for a flat-rate of $8.00. But, that’s only for arrival after 5pm.

Of course, there’s always metered parking. If you can find a two-hour meter, and fill it at 4pm, you will be all set, since the meters only operate until 6pm.

Thanks for the immediate responses! What a great group! I did find a nice useful map of parking garages that is very clear –

Parcel 7 Garage: Cheapest Parking Garage In Boston If You Have Validation

City of Bostons Parcel 7 Garage is not Bostons newest, cleanest, or sleekest garage, and the ramps are kind of steep . . . but its really, really cheap , really, really convenient, and considering how pricey. parking is at most Boston parking garages, a phenomenal bargain.

How cheap? Would you believe only $3 for up to 3 hours? And just $1 for 1-2 hours?!! But after the 3-hour limit even just 1 minute past regular rates apply. Theyre not the worst in the city but why pay higher rates if you dont have to?

Heres the catch you have to have your ticket validated.

But no worries Boston Public Garden, Haymarket vendors, and most North End stores, restaurants, churches, attractions, and other organizations will validate. If in doubt, call your destination and ask if they validate for Parcel 7.

Easiest place for validation: Boston Public Market, located on the buildings lowest floor with entrances on the other sides. Best bet in a pinch: Adams Pizza & Convenience Store at the corner of Hanover and Blackstone will validate with any purchase of $10 or more.

Unfortunately, theres a second catch: even though Parcel 7 qualifies as an insiders secret, there are plenty of insiders who know about it . . . so sometimes its full. If you plan to park at Parcel 7, always have a #2 choice in mind.

North End Parking Lots

Commercial Street and Atlantic Avenue loop around the outer perimeter of the North End.

Near Lewis Wharf and Sargents Wharf, youll find a cluster of parking lots and a garage that usually offer attractive rates. Sometimes, you can snag the cheapest parking in Bostons North End but sometimes not, so read the signs VERY carefully to avoid surprises.

Parking lot rates vary depending on the day, time, and season, so your best bet is to drive slowly as you approach them and either stop or pull over to read the signs. They may also be higher for special events. Because the lots and garage are close to each other, you can pick whichever one appears to offer the best price.

Were not going to give prices because they vary too much. But if you get a $15 rate for, lets say, 3 hours or more, youve scored a great deal in this neighborhood where parking is scarce and pricey.

Whats the secret to getting the lowest prices in these North End parking lots and garages? Arrive early especially on the weekends!
