Benefits Of Studying Online

Even tech-savvy people are a little apprehensive when first taking an online course. Advantages of online learning include:

  • Opportunity to learn new skills
  • More academic options
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Course material accessibility

It is an alternative to brick-and-mortar attendance at a university or college. A large number of schools and programs are available online. Some are regionally and nationally accredited. Students may not get a face-to-face experience available to on-campus students. Still, there are many advantages and benefits to online learning, that is also referred to as e-learning or distance learning.

Online learning for adults going back to school

Some adults want to go back to school but have a family to take care of or are working full time. It is not feasible for them to take the time to drive to evening classes after working all day. Studying online gives more flexibility. An individual can fit a work schedule and hobbies around coursework, especially if he or she does not have a specific time to log in to a live session. Interaction with fellow classmates and the instructor can be done at a self-determined pace. In many cases, online learning is available around the clock. Students participate in class when it is convenient for them.

What Hours Can You Expect To Work As A Ta

Typically, TAs work Monday to Friday during term time, with their annual leave coinciding with school holidays. Teaching Assistants who work for boarding schools, free schools and academies may find their hours vary, and they may include some weekend work or sessions. On average, TAs work for 29 hours per week though some Teaching Assistants work from 9am to the end of the school day. Some schools will ask you start earlier and finish an hour or so after the end of the school day, depending on the extracurricular activities on offer.

Occasionally, some schools offer summer school sessions which you may want to become involved in to earn extra wages. Taking time off during term time is usually heavily controlled. This is simply because without TAs, many lessons cannot function as well, and the school does not run as smoothly. It may be possible to take time off in exceptional circumstances such as bereavement and weddings, but this is generally at the discretion of the headteacher or your line manager.

Employment contracts vary widely in the teaching support profession. Some TAs work full time, others work part time. Many TAs also job share. It is increasingly common for schools to offer fixed-term contracts or temporary contracts to TAs.

The summer term stretches from the end of the Easter break to mid-July.

It includes a half term week long holiday in late May.

This is a busy term, with year 11, 12 and 13 students sitting GCSEs, AS levels and A levels.

Typical Requirements For An Online Teacher Assistant Program

State College of Florida Nursing School receives more funding for night, weekend programs

No teaching certificate is required to be a teachers assistant, but some states require additional training, college courses, or a paraprofessional certificate. The position of a teacher assistant may be held by a student who is pursuing a teaching degree or a parent with school-age children. The primary requirement is to be certified. A GED or high school diploma is required. Having some college credit is an advantage. Just as the roles of teacher assistants vary, so do the requirements.

Some schools allow the time spent as a teachers assistant to be used toward extra college credit or an internship. Some states classify the position as a paraprofessional and expect a minimum of 48 college hour credits in child development and growth, reading, English, math, and other areas. They may also require a preliminary screening test. Prior childcare experience may also be a prerequisite. Working at a summer camp, church nursery, YMCA, or a local daycare helps teacher assistant candidates gain valuable childcare experience.

Having related field experience is nearly always required or preferred to work as a teachers assistant. On-the-job training teaches assistants to help teachers with special activities, organizing the classroom, grading papers, and office work. Being multilingual or bilingual may be an asset in areas that have students for whom English is a second language.
