Common Government Grant Scam Techniques
Many are tricked, in part, because these government loan scams use real sounding names to fool people. Some of the scams use actual names of well known financial institutions and government agencies. If you go to their website it will probably look very respectable and sophisticated.
Designing a legitimate looking website is part of the scheme. If youre sent to a website for more information or to fill out forms it makes many people feel more comfortable with the whole deal. The part that fools people is that the website domains will be just a little bit different than those of the real financial or government websites.
Just different enough to trick you. Real government websites usually, but not always, have domains ending in .gov which is difficult to forge. Bear in mind that you can make a link say anything you want. Where that link takes you is another story. When the link says government-loans.gov but once clicked you are taken to government-loans.com you should be on your guard.
This Type Of Federal Grant Does Not Require An Application
Every grant from the federal government involves an application submitted through a government website, such as Grants.gov. Also, you cannot apply for federal grants over the phone or via email. Any individual claiming that a grant does not require an application, or requires only a phone call or an email, is attempting to scam you.

Child Who Decides Not To Continue Education After High School
- You will not be taxed on the amount you contributed to the RESP, but you will have to pay taxes on the money that you earned in your plan as interest. This money is called “accumulated income.” It will be taxed at your regular income tax level, plus an additional 20 percent.
- The money that you have put into the RESP is returned to you.
- The CESG can be shared with a brother or sister if they have grant room availableotherwise, the grant must be returned to the Government of Canada.
- When you close your RESP, you will have to pay tax on the earnings in the RESP. Out of the blue, you will receive a call from a person claiming to represent a government grant association or a federal grant association. The caller will offer to help you get a government grant of somewhere in the neighborhood of $5000.00.
Youll be asked to pay a fee for their service. This fee could be any amount but its usually small enough in relation to the grant so as not to raise suspicion. The will also ask for your bank account number and perhaps your mothers maiden name, and any other information that they can use to bilk you out of your money.
Getting personal information out of you over the phone is typical of almost any telemarketing scam. Think twice before you give any out. If the person on the other end of the phone is a crook, youve got big problems.

The NSW Government’s Dine & Discover Voucher scheme supports hospitality, arts and tourism businesses.
Four vouchers, worth $25 each, are available to every NSW resident. They can be used for:
- dining in at restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries, pubs and clubs
- takeaway meals
- entertainment and recreation, including cultural institutions, live music and arts venues.
Vouchers are valid until June 2022.

Another common government imposter scam is when someone contacts you telling you that you have won a federally supervised lottery or sweepstakes. The criminals claim to be from the National Consumer Protection Agency, the non-existent National Sweepstakes Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission or even the Michigan Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Unit.
When making contact, the scammer might tell you that you have to pay taxes or service fees before you can collect your prize, or they will insist that you must wire money immediately. This is a scam! In reality, no government agency is involved, and there are no winnings.
Sydney Cbd Friday Voucher Program
The NSW Government has announced a new voucher program to encourage the community back into the Sydney CBD and support businesses impacted by COVID-19.
The program will offer 500,000 NSW residents 4 x $25 vouchers to spend at dining and entertainment venues in the Sydney CBD on Fridays.
Eligible COVID-Safe dining and entertainment businesses in the 2000 postcode will be able to register for the program in late 2021.

A fake $9,000 government grant is offered via a phone call by scammers impersonating the federal authorities. Free money from the government is always lovely to have but watch out for this scam. It even involves using a Steam card , if you know what that is.
