Seized 37m Motor Yacht Kahu To Be Sold At 24
The 37 metre motor yacht Kahu is to be sold at auction later this month after she was seized by British authorities in September 2021 as part of a drug trafficking operation.
The online auction is being managed by Belfast-based auctioneer Wilsons Auction on behalf of the National Crime Agency. No reserve has been set which means Kahu will sail away with the highest bidder.
The online-only bidding will open on Wednesday, April 27 at 3pm GMT and close at the same time the next day.
Built in 1979 by Whangarei Engineering Co. for the Royal New Zealand Navy, Kahu was converted into a luxury yacht in 2012. She underwent a full-scale refit that left her with a brand new aluminium superstructure and near ice-class specification.
She has proved herself as a capable explorer since, with a remarkable range of 7,000 nautical miles that has taken her around the South Pacific and Hawaii.
Wilsons Auctions government contracts manager, Mark Woods said: We are delighted to manage the sale of this high-profile asset. The online element of the auction is extremely convenient for bidders around the world to register and get involved. This will be an exciting one to watch.
Kahu offers accommodation for up to 16 guests in six cabins, alongside crew accommodation for four. She volunteers plenty of alfresco living spaces, with generous aft decks and a spacious top deck.

In the market for a dirt bike or a boat?
The federal government may not be the first place you’d think to look for a deal on either, but it happens to be auctioning off both this month in B.C.
Through a website called GCSurplus, the government sells off surplus federal assets including “furniture, cars, trucks, boats, farm equipment and more.”
Some of the items listed could also be forfeited goods obtained by local, provincial and federal police including jewelry and appliances, among other items.
The site also lists for auction items like metal, wood and textiles in large volumes.
Browsers can search by keyword or item category. For example, in more eastern provinces there are several cars listed including a used Mercedes-Benz for which bidding was, as of Tuesday, at $23,800.
A shopper willing to export their purchase out of Quebec could try to beat a bid of $2,895 for two electric motorcycles and a “small electric car,” all three of which are certified for a non-Canadian market and cannot be registered or resold in Canada.
The listing does not get into details, but says the items were forfeited to the Crown, suggesting they were obtained through a police investigation.
In a category called “Textiles, leather, fur, clothing and footwear,” a pair of distressed jeans from a brand that charges up to $1,600 had a top bid Tuesday afternoon of $300.
A collection of Boston Bruins jerseys still had 12 days left at auction with the current bid at $540.

We all know that US Government boat auctions are regularly held by Government agencies at Federal, State, and Local levels. Everything and anything that can be liquidated is done so quickly and efficiently.
Of course we all tend to think our Federal Government only taketh but it sometimes giveth away…in the form of must sell assets. Not because they care but simply because they don’t have room and need money.
Which is why each month the US Government is forced to hold scheduled auctions to liquidate seized or surplus assets at discounted prices in order to make room for new inventory.
The stuff has gotta go too.
Confiscated assets tied to crime busts like cars, trucks, boats, cycles equipment, computers, and jewelery are just a few of the big ticket items that routinely show up at US Goverment auctions.
However, don’t expect to find everything that some US Government boat auctions sites claim. I’ve been doing this for 6 years and for every police seized Stingray liquidated for $500, there’s thousands of items that in my opinion are overbid or not worth the trouble of fixin’ up.
