There are two types of home equity loans:

  • Lump sum – This is a one-time, closed-end loan that usually has a fixed interest rate.
  • Revolving line of credit – You can withdraw the funds at any time for more flexibility. These usually have adjustable interest rates.

Canada Greener Homes Grant: Details And Eligibility

There are 700,000 grants available to be given out by the program, each worth up to $5,600. There can only be one grant given out per household or building .

In order to be eligible, applicants must own their homes. The breakdown of the $5,600 grant is as follows:

  • up to $600 for a home evaluation and expert advice so you can begin to plan and assess your retrofits
  • up to $5,000 total to help you make energy efficiency retrofits/improvements to your home

This program works in the way of reimbursements. That is, you will not be receiving any money before you have completed and paid for your home improvements.

Please note that if your home is less than six months old, you will not be eligible for this program.

It is also important to note that the $5,000 retrofit reimbursements that are allocated in each grant package have strict criteria. Through the program, you will only be reimbursed for the following retrofit and home improvement activities, each of which has its designated reimbursement limit.

Resiliency measures Put measures in place to protect your home from the potential environmental damages that are posed by climate change . Up to $2,625

How Do I Apply

You may apply for the PEI Home Renovation Programs using the blue button at the bottom of this page, or you may download the PDF version of the application form fill it out by hand with all relevant details, and mail it to the program address below. Sign the declaration acknowledging your understanding of the program criteria and policies, and sign the CRA consent section authorizing proof of income.

Prioritize your requests to renovations that meet your greatest need, as funding is limited . Any incomplete applications will not be processed.

If you are applying for additional funding under the PEI Home Renovation Program as a person with a disability, you must submit a medical verification form with your application indicating the permanent disability, and the necessary modifications to the home to improve accessibility or life safety.

Housing Industry Foundations Emergency Housing Fund

The Housing Industry Foundation collaborates with a network of partner agencies to provide its Emergency Housing Fund. This one-time grant of up to $2,500 is available to eligible applicants who are threatened with homelessness and need help with housing relocation. Applications will reopen on January 3, 2023, but you can learn more about how to apply.

Kingston Ontario Renovates Program

Home Improvement Grants

You can apply to the Kingston-Frontenac Renovates program through a downloadable form available on the Kingston web site. After completing the application, you can return it by mail or in person. The web site has local income and home value qualification limits as well.Understand that the application period is limited to only a few weeks each year, so make sure you understand all deadlines to give you the best chance of success.

The majority of Home Repair Help Programs come packaged in loans that must be paid back with an interest rate. This isnt cheap. Thankfully there are three possible options to fix the problem.

In the case of an applicant with a permanent disability, a maximum of $16,000 may be available if the renovations improve the accessibility of the house.

Applying For A Disabled Facilities Grant

Owner-occupiers, landlords, tenants, licensees, and occupiers of some houseboats and park homes can apply for a disabled facilities grant, provided the work is for the benefit of a disabled person who lives or will live in the property.

To apply for a disabled facilities grant, you need to fill in a form which you can get from your local authority. They might ask for information and/or for tests to be carried out before you make a formal application. You might also need to get approval for building regulations, planning, listed building or conservation area purposes.

Here are a few tips that can help you have a better chance at a successful application process.

  • Apply on Time: Apply on Time: With most local governments, applications begin in the spring time of the calendar year. Its possible that your local Ontario Renovates program will only accept applications for a few weeks each year, because it commits all of its funds in a short amount of time. Once the funds are depleted for the year, the applications process ends. This means its important to apply as close to the date the program opens in the calendar year as possible, so you can be near the front of the line.
  • Read the Rules: If your local program has a short application window, you need to make sure you follow all of the rules the first time. If you dont include all of the necessary information or if you fill out some forms incorrectly, your application may move to the back of the line until the proper forms are submitted.

If you live in rented accommodation and are applying for a disabled facilities grant for work to a communal area of the property in which you live, you should make sure that youre responsible for doing the work. If your landlord is responsible for doing the work, youll not be able to get a grant. Your landlord might be able to apply for a grant instead.
