About The Canadian Agricultural Partnership
The Canadian Agricultural Partnership is a 5-year, $3 billion investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen the agriculture and agri-food sector. It provides funding to help Yukons agriculture industry:
- increase competitiveness, productivity or profitability
- increase environmental sustainability
- expand domestic and international markets and
- improve the anticipation, mitigation and response to risks.
Livestock Control Fence Designs
The majority of non-electric agricultural fences constructed in B.C. are cattle fences either around hay fields, pastures or rangeland. These fences control a variety of cattle including range bulls, pasture cows, cows with small calves and large breeds under conditions from native range to irrigated pasture.

Agri Livestock Investment Grant
The Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation Program supports the advancement of Minnesotas agricultural and renewable energy industries.
The AGRI Livestock Investment Grant encourages long-term industry development for Minnesota livestock farmers and ranchers by helping them improve, update, and modernize their livestock operation infrastructure and equipment.
Young Farmers Capital Investment Scheme
The new young farmer grants covers an array of equipment and buildings.
Details of the new grants for young farmers, which cover 60% of farm investment, was announced last year.
The young farmer grants come under the Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme, is the first of the new Targeted Modernisation Schemes .
The Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney said the Scheme is very important offering eligible young farmers a special rate of aid of 60% of investment costs, compared to the standard rate of 40% which will be generally available to other farmers.
An indicative allocation of 120m has been made available to young farmers under the terms of the new Scheme over the full RDP period.

Ongoing Enrollment At Local Soil Conservation Districts
ANNAPOLIS, MD The Maryland Department of Agriculture has announced that four new conservation practices are now eligible for cost-share funding up to 87.5% through the Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share Program. These practices involve adding woody vegetation in and along fields to serve as natural filters. Additionally, state cost-share funding has been expanded to help Maryland farmers install livestock fencing systems that improve pasture management.
The department is excited to introduce these new opportunities for farmers to install more climate-friendly conservation practices that will help reduce sediment runoff from fields and improve water quality for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, said Secretary Joe Bartenfelder. Planting trees and vegetation next to cropland and in pastures makes good agricultural and environmental sense. The department stands firm in its commitment to provide farmers with the tools they need to protect our states vital natural resources.
Trees and shrubs help to improve water quality by filtering runoff and reducing soil erosion. They also work to sequester carbon from the atmosphere and improve soil health, all while creating biodiversity and wildlife habitat. Once fully implemented, these natural filters will help Maryland meet its water quality goals for the Chesapeake Bay and help to remove excess carbon from the atmosphere.

Funding Available For New Fencing

Many farmers and ranchers periodically convert farm ground to grazing ground. Fields that once grew crops get planted to grass to extend and expand a producers grass rotation schedule and needs. Or maybe another pasture is needed to better rotate livestock, but theres no fence presently.
If a new fence is needed to improve grazing or promote rotational grazing, cost sharing and loan programs exist to help pay for labor and materials. Fence costs are expensive, often the most expensive thing associated with livestock grazing, especially when miles of fence are needed.
The average cost to contract to install barbed wire fence for cattle is $2.50/foot, Van Pelt Fencing owner and president Brad Van Pelt said. This means if a rancher needs to install a square mile of fence, it cost approximately $52,800. The cost adds up pretty quick when youre talking about miles of fence.
Cost share assistance to help cover these expenses is available through the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program . EQIP is an incentive program to help producers in conversation and fencing projects.
EQIP is a cost share program thats funded through the Farm Bill, Scottsbluff NRCS district conservationist Sarah Gray said. Essentially, the program provides cost share assistance for producers farmers and ranchers, to address natural resource concerns or objectives.

Former Financial Assistance Programs
The Agricultural Water Enhancement Program was a voluntary conservation initiative that provided financial and technical assistance to agricultural producers to implement agricultural water enhancement activities on agricultural land to conserve surface and ground water and improve water quality.
The Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative was a voluntary conservation initiative that enabled the use of certain conservation programs along with resources of eligible partners to provide financial and technical assistance to owners and operators of agricultural and nonindustrial private forest lands.
The Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program was a voluntary program for conservation-minded landowners who want to develop and improve wildlife habitat on agricultural land, nonindustrial private forest land, and Indian land. It has been folded into EQIP.

New Grants For Sustainable Fencing Projects
In an initiative to promote projects with tangible environmental or sustainable agricultural outcomes, Landcare Australia is launching the Gallagher Landcare Fencing Grants.
Gallagher is providing funding for these grants in the form of in-kind fencing and monetary support.
Eligible applicants for the grants are invited to apply for an individual fencing project grant for up to $8000 including fencing materials.
Up to 12 grants are planned for 2019 and are open to Landcare, Coastcare and Junior Landcare groups individual landholders, farmers and graziers and volunteer-based community groups.
Grant recipients will undertake fencing projects, using Gallagher products and must show tangible environmental or sustainable agricultural outcomes.
“We are delighted that by funding these grants, Gallagher is extending its partnership with Landcare Australia and providing much needed financial and product support to conservation fencing and grazing management projects,” Landcare Australia chief executive Shane Norrish said.
Gallagher Landcare Fencing Grant applications are open until Friday, May 31, for projects that align with one or both of the below priority areas:

Special Disaster Assistance Recovery
Provides primary producers with funding to help them with costs of clean-up and reinstatement activities following a declared natural disaster.
Eligible clean-up and reinstatement activities may include:
Hiring or leasing equipment or materials to clean premises, property or equipment removing and disposing of debris, damaged goods, materials including injured or dead livestock
Repairing or replacing fencing on the property
Purchasing and transporting fodder or feed for livestock
Replacing livestock
Replacing lost or damaged plants, salvaging crops, repairing or restoring fields
Repairing, reconditioning or replacing essential plant or equipment
Maintaining the health of livestock
Paying additional wages to an employee to assist with clean-up work
Funding of up to $75,000 is available.

Special Programs For Improving Farming Fence
The program has certain restrictions. It does not include any cost sharing for fence repairs, just a new fence for new grazing programs.
All farmers and ranchers know the hardship and cost of repairing fences destroyed by winter storms and winds, but this specific EQIP program covers the cost of repairing fences can be earned from different fencing grants for farmers.
EQIP is available for new fence projects, said Barb Cross, assistant manager, North Platte Natural Resources. There are restrictions like converting farmland back to grassland or setting up a grazing system.
Ag producers interested in the program should visit their local NRCS office. The staff is ready to listen to producers needs and help them in any way possible.
A producer came in and met with an NRCS employee. We have processes to determine what their goals, objectives and concerns are. Then we use our knowledge to talk to them about possible alternatives to be able to address these things.
This is also paired with on-site visits to fully understand what is happening in the country. We encourage producers to come over and apply and see if we can get them funding, said Gray. We have a lot of tools in our toolbox.
The NRCS is working hard to raise the funds from producers need, including working with other agencies that share a common goal of helping farmers and ranchers.

Organic Certification Cost Share Program
The Missouri Department of Agriculture has funds available for the 2020 National Organic Certification Cost Share Program through funds provided by the United States Department of Agriculture. The program will provide cost share assistance to organic producers and handlers receiving certification or continuation of certification by a USDA accredited certifying agency starting October 1, 2020, and ending September 30, 2021. Rural Economic Development Grants
The Rural Economic Development Grants Scheme has been funded to an amount of $10m over three funding rounds. These grants will fund projects which provide unique opportunities to generate economic and employment opportunities related to primary production across rural and remote Queensland. Grants are available up to a maximum of $250,000 with a 50 per cent cash contribution requirement from applicants.

RICHMOND, VA Farmers in 22 Virginia counties can now apply for $1.45 million in funding from USDAs Natural Resources Conservation Service to help improve Chesapeake Bay water quality through livestock exclusion and forestry practices in targeted rivers and streams. This new Regional Conservation Partnership Program project will focus on fencing, watering systems and establishing/maintaining forested areas along waterways.
Offered in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation , this multi-agency project will draw on the combined expertise of NRCS, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the Virginia Department of Forestry to conduct outreach and offer technical assistance to participating farmers.
Project areas are linked to priority watersheds and do not include entire counties. Producers may be eligible for this funding if they receive services from these NRCS Service Centers: Amelia, Bedford, Buckingham, Culpeper, Farmville, Fredericksburg, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Louisa, Rustburg, Strasburg, and Verona. Interested individuals should call or visit their local office to confirm eligibility and complete an application by to be considered for FY16 funding.

Animal Welfare Safety And Nutrient Storage Scheme
The Animal Welfare, Safety and Nutrient Storage Scheme is also included under TAMS II and includes a large variety of investments for farmers.
Eligible investments range from the construction of new animal housing, the provision of nutrient storage facilities and the ever-important safety elements.
Grant aid is available under the scheme at a standard rate of 40%.
Natural Disaster Recovery Funding
Provides Northern Queensland primary producers impacted by the North and Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough, 25 January – 14 February 2019 with matched funding of up to $400,000 to help them recover from this natural disaster.
Funding may be used to:
Restock lost livestock
Cover freight transport costs associated with replacing livestock
Replant lost or damaged crops or permanent plantings
Restore or replace lost or damaged on-farm infrastructure
Matched funding of up to $400,000 is available.

The Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program provides grants to organizations that train, educate, and provide outreach and technical assistance to new and beginning farmers on production, marketing, business management, legal strategies and other topics critical to running a successful operation.
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative focuses on developing models to assist small farmers in their decision making with respect to management strategies, new technologies, sustainability, and competitiveness and viability.
Value Added Producer Grants can help farmers and ranchers develop new products, create and expand marketing opportunities, and increasing producer income. Priority is available for small and mid-sized family farms, beginning and socially-disadvantaged farmers, and veterans.
The Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program supports development and marketing activities for farmers markets, food hubs, roadside stands, agri-tourism activities and other producer to consumer markets. This support can help small and mid-sized farmers access markets.
Local and regional food systems can be a profitable sector for small and mid-sized farmers. The Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Initiative coordinates USDA’s work in local and regional food systems and is a centralized resource for learning about USDA opportunities in this industry.

Rural Development Loan And Grant Assistance
USDA Rural Development forges partnerships with rural communities, funding projects that bring housing, community facilities, business guarantees, utilities and other services to rural America. Virginia Farmers Now Eligible For Portable Fencing Funding To Protect Streams
This summer, farmers in Virginia became eligible for state cost-share funding to pay for portable fencing to keep livestock out of streams and rivers. Fencing livestock out of waterways has significant benefits for clean water because it prevents erosion and waste from polluting streams. The practice also contributes to healthier herds. Before July 1, farmers could only receive cost-share funding for more expensive permanent stream fencing systems. Temporary fencing is often a more viable option for the many Virginia farmers who lease land.
Chesapeake Bay Foundation Virginia Watershed Restoration Scientist Matt Kowalski issued the following statement.
Providing state cost-share funding for temporary fencing opens up so many opportunities for farmers to contribute to cleaner rivers and streams while managing healthy herds. Temporary fencing is a very affordable option thats also portable, so farmers can take it with them if they lose a lease. This is going to help more farmers fence their livestock out of waterways, leading to healthier rivers and streams across Virginia.

Educational Resources And Outreach
USDA has created a Learning Guide Series for small and mid-sized producers to help them navigate available USDA resources. The first in this series will be for small and mid-sized livestock and poultry producers. Additional Learning Guides will be released later this year and will be available on the Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food website. USDA field staff and StrikeForce teams will increase outreach to small and mid-sized producers using the Learning Guides.
In addition, the Natural Resource Conservation Service has launched Small Scale Solutions for Your Farm, a series of educational resources designed for both small livestock and fruit and vegetable producers, including tips on simple management activities such as planting cover crops to complex structural practices such as animal waste management systems or innovative irrigation devices.
Newfarmers.usda.gov also serves as a one stop shop for beginning farmers and ranchers to learn about how to get started. While not all small and midsize producers are new or beginning, many do start out small.
