Before you leave the parking lot, the rental car company will need a debit or credit card on file. Once they do, they will take a deposit out of your account, which they will later return, and then theyll typically use that card to complete the transaction when you return the car. A good rule of thumb is to make sure you have enough cash or credit to cover the deposit.

What Is The Usaa Discount Code For Hertz

The USAA discount for Hertz is where things start to get really good. Youll use promo code 77694 when booking your rental.

If you pay at the time of rental, itll be more expensive than the direct-to-you military discount than Hertz. Your four-day Tesla rental would cost you $98.35/day. Thats a meager 9% in savings.

But the USAA discount code allows you to get lower prices on the Pay Now feature, too. If you can pay for your rental ahead of time, the Tesla would cost you just $68.60/day. Thats 37% off, and the biggest discount weve found to date on Hertz rentals for military families.

The exact percentage of your discount may vary depending on when youre renting, where youre renting, and which vehicle youre renting.

TIP: Sometimes there are additional discounts for USAA members. Be sure to check with USAA before you book, as there might be an additional promo code to use on top of the 77694 CDP.

But Its Still Not As Good As The Pay Now Discount For Civilians

Using the military discount this way is greatitll save you more on your car rental than the Veterans Advantage discount. But its not the lowest price youll see on a rental.

If you are able to pay for your rental upfront, youll get an even better rate by not using the military discount. The Pay Now rate for that Tesla, which is open to civilians and service members alike, was just $70/day.

Thats a 33% discount, which saves you dramatically more money than the military discount on Hertz car rentals.

This is a no-brainer. Joining the Hertz loyalty program is free and only takes a couple of minutes to sign up. Once you are a member, you can get great perks, free rental days, and free upgrades.

Rental with a Premium Credit Card

Premier credit cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card, have rental car insurance benefits included which will allow you to bypass the added insurance fees the car companies will try to get you to purchase at the rental counter.

Make sure your credit card offers primary rental car insurance coverage. My Sapphire Preferred Card saved me when I had an accident in Italy.

Rent Off Airport

Im not a huge fan of this option, since it can be quite an inconvenience. However, you can save quite a bit by renting outside of the airport and avoiding all of the added fees that come with renting at the airport.

Dont prepay for Gas

Its easy to get sucked into thinking that the lower-priced prepaid gas is a good deal. It isnt. When you prepay for gas you are paying for a full tank. The odds of you using every last bit of gas before you return are very low. Fill the tank up several miles outside the airport and you will be better off.
