Federal Pell Grant Vs Stafford Loan
Most federal government grants for students can be applied to living expenses, if your tuition is already covered via other financial means. Grant payments are dispersed through your schools financial aid office. There, they will either hand you a check directly, or apply the disbursement to your outstanding balance with the college and give you the difference. This money can then be used to cover living expenses, along with books and supplies. You will probably need to combine it with other grants, loans, scholarships, or sources of income to fully cover your costs while going to college.

What Do I Do If I Dont Qualify For Student Aid
Perhaps you dont qualify for student aid but you still think that you would benefit from financial assistance while youre in school, or maybe youve already maxed-out your other student aid options but still have financial needs to be met. If this is the case, you can look into applying for a student line of credit or a personal loan from private institutions, such as your bank or a credit union.
These options can help pay for just about anything from school supplies and tuition to living expenses, which could end up costing more than expected. The amount of money you borrow depends on course load and level of study, and there is typically a cap on the maximum amount that you can receive.
For a student line of credit, you are given a pre-set credit limit, and you only have to pay back what you borrow, plus interest on the amount received. Interest rates on a student line of credit are lower than those offered on Canada student loans, but remember that with a line of credit, youre required to start paying interest as soon as you withdraw any money.
With personal loans, youre required to pay back the full amount, interest and any applicable fees over a specified period of time.
Remember, the most important thing about student aid is to apply. There are plenty of optionsyou have nothing to lose by applying and seeing what you can get, but theres so much to gain.

How do the causes of homelessness and housing insecurity differ for college-aged students than they do for adults, and how does that affect their needs?
As a college student coming out of the foster care system, you are just starting your life. You are on your own for the first time and have to put your foot in the door to get anywhere. If your only focus is on survival, its really hard to focus on education. You are exposed to crime. You spend your time figuring out where you are going to stay that night and whose couch you can sleep on. That makes you emotionally and physically vulnerable. At the same time, you are trying to learn how school works, how to get government support and learning other life skills like getting a drivers license, finding a doctor and working a job. Its really hard to focus on school with all that going on.
How did your experience with foster care and homelessness affect your pursuit of higher education?

Organizations Can Help Unemployed In Hardship
Organizations can help you after you have exhausted the extensions, many local governments and private organizations may be able to offer you more help. You can find a list of these organizations on the website of your claims status or by contacting the local Social Security office.
Combining Student Grants With Scholarships And Loans
Student grants can typically be integrated with scholarships, loans, workstudy funds, and other types of financial aid to offset the expense of going to college. In most cases, the total amount of funding cannot exceed the cost of attendance with tuition, room, board, textbooks, and fees. Virtually all colleges and universities demand to be notified if students receive financial aid from external programs.
Students must keep in mind that some grant administrators ask that all other forms of non-loan aid be exhausted before their grants are applied. Most grant funds are sent directly to the school, but some money may be handed to students with the intention that they use it for college-related expenses. Grant recipients must understand when the free money will be disbursed, in case that date passes the tuition deadline.
