You cant just go to a website and ask for 1 small business grant please, and expect to get one.
In all cases, you need to apply for a grant, which can take a decent amount of work and effort. Then, youre up against other small businesses that also want the grant. Its common for even small grants to get hundreds of applicants.
If you understand that, and that theres no guarantee to get a grant, your head is in the right place.

Us Economic Development Administration
The EDA is mandated to foster economic development in all US communities. Grant money is part of the solution and can be viewed on the EDA website, which is constantly being updated to reflect recent funding opportunities. For example, the most recent funding opportunity listed is the Fiscal Year 2020 Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Programs. This grant provides $587 million in funding opportunities for small businesses affected by natural disasters in 2018. State Government Grants For Small Business
State-level small business grants are generally geared toward that particular stateâs social or economic concerns. Theyâre meant to work in tandem with federal or other state grants, so youâll usually get less funding. That said, theyâre much more accessible due to lower competition. Also, many are matching grants: Instead of just providing the funds for you to use for a certain purpose, some will require that you match the money they give as well.
You can search for business grants in your own state and industry by looking at your states department of commerce website or grants portal. Below, we list some popular state grant programs and resources.
Also, an important note: While weâre listing state-specific government grants for small businesses, many of these run across multiple states, so donât give up if the grant looks right but your states donât match.

Business Grants For Minorities
There are many loans available for minorities, but few grants, just like veterans.
Minority Business Development Agency : The MBDA offers very restricted grants to all types of American minorities. The grants are only given to those interested in running one of MBDAs Minority Business Centers, and only in specific locations that they want to expand to. Youll need to offer consulting services, and help them secure financing and investments. Youll need to show that you have experience doing this, so very few people are eligible.
In addition to those grants, MBDA also occasionally runs other grant competitions. Youll have to monitor their news to find these opportunities in the future, but there are no set schedules or eligibility guidelines for them.
First Nations Development Institute Grants: Monitor this page to find grant opportunities for small businesses owned by Native Americans. This organization has given over 1,400 grants for a total of almost $30 million dollars from 1993 to 2017. There are no restrictions on the types of businesses eligible for the grants, as long as the owner is Native American. You can subscribe to their email list to be alerted to any new opportunities.
Grants For Particular People And Places
You can access grants to small business program northwest territories. These grants are ideal for small businesses, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and cooperatives that have less than $500,000 in gross sales.
All Northwest businesses qualify for up to $15,000 a year under the SEED entrepreneur support program. The money can assist with the cost of startup, operational support, product promotion, market development, and capital assistance.
Aspiring farmers in Quebec are eligible for startup grant of up to $25000. The only catch is that they need to be between the ages of 18 and 40, and the projects need to steer sustainable development.

Us Small Business Administration
The Small Business Administration operates small business development centers in each state to provide assistance to entrepreneurs who aspire to get their businesses off the ground or to grow existing businesses.
Universities and state economic development agencies head these development centers and offer business owners plan development, manufacturing assistance, financial packaging, lending assistance, exporting and importing support, disaster recovery assistance, procurement and contracting aid, market research, 8 program support and research guidance.

What Are The $5000 Supplemental Advances
The American Rescue Plan includes $5 billion in funding for Supplemental Targeted Advances to hardest hit businesses. The legislation states these $5000 grants will be available to covered businesses that:
- Suffered an economic loss of greater than 50 percent and
- Employ not more than 10 employees
This grant is in addition to the $10,000 Targeted EIDL Advance. The SBA will reach out to small business owners who applied for the Targeted Advance if they appear eligible for the supplemental grant.

Us Government Research And Development Funds
The U.S. government doesn’t offer funds for you to start a business, but if you’re in the business of health research or working on an environmental project, the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs may help. They offer small-business federal funds for research and development, awarded directly through federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health or the Department of Energy.
An easy way to search and find these research-oriented funds is to use the Grants.gov website. For small-business owners, this site can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. However, if you use its advanced search tool, you can find a long list of health and environmental projects for which grants are available. Select all for most of the drop down boxes, and scroll down to the Search by Eligibility box and select small businesses. At press time, 790 grants existed for the keyword.
What If I Never Applied For Eidl
If you have not previously applied for EIDL, you may apply at SBA.gov. You will be able to apply for the low-interest-rate EIDL loan through December 31, 2021 as long as funds are available. If it appears your business also qualifies for the Targeted Advance or supplemental advance, the SBA will invite you to apply.

Washington DC’s Department of Small and Local Business has a Northeasterly, Deanwood Cultural Arts Activation Grant for up to $60,000 to utilize indoor or outdoor commercial spaces in the Deanwood neighborhood, while the Arizona Commerce Authority offers the AZ Step Program for small businesses that are interested in entering export markets for the first time.
Kansas has a Job Creation Program Fund for companies that want to get started in the state and Maryland encourages quality care and education within child care centers with its Child Care Quality Incentive Grant Program.

Free Grants And Grant Scams
If you receive information stating you qualify for a “free grant,” it’s probably a scam. Get information from the Federal Trade Commission so you can better recognize and avoid grant scams. If you have been a victim of a grant scam, you can file a complaint with the FTC.

How Do I Apply For A Targeted Eidl Grant
If you previously applied for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan, you will receive an invitation inviting you to apply for the targeted grant.
If you have not yet applied for EIDL you can do so at SBA.gov. If your business appears eligible, you will be invited to apply for the Targeted Advance. You do not have to accept the EIDL loan to get the grant, if you qualify.
Important! Check your spam folder for email from the SBA and watch out for scams. The SBA is contacting previous applicants directly by email with instructions to determine eligibility and submit documentation. The SBA advises:
Any EIDL Grant previously received will be subtracted from the $10,000 EIDL Grant.
