Timberline Lodge Scary Prices

Mt. Hood is apparently the second most climbed mountain in the world. Definitely spectacular to see the snow in the summer. You can hike trails or just lounge in a chair off the Timberline patio taking in Mt. Hood. “The Shining’s” opening movie aerial shots and lodge’s exterior were used in the 1980 film. Beware of the food prices for lunch/dinner, pretty hefty! We managed to find a pub tucked away in the lodge that served great swiss french onion soup.By far the best part of the road-trip was the Oregon Coast scenic drive and well worth the winding road. Unbelievably beautiful to see the Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Mountain Range.Crown Point is the spectacular view 733 feet above the Columbia Gorge River. The Vista House is an observatory and rest-stop to take in the spectacular view.Travel the historic scenic highway to all eight waterfalls on the map. Multnomah Falls is more touristy and gets the bulk of visitors, quite amazing though. You can get a less-crowded feel at some of the other falls along the route. Latourell Falls was one of my favorites.Cathedral Ridge Winery is a must-see and there are more than 30 odd wineries all within easy driving distance. Highly recommend all the attractions and scenic beauty the Oregon Coast highway has to offer, enjoy as we did!

Where Is Timberline Lodge Resort Located

Timberline Lodge is located near the base of Mt. Hood, 60 miles east of Portland International Airport. Depending on traffic, it takes about an hour by car to get to the resort. There is also the Timberline Resort Shuttle, which operates on weekends and holidays. Its free for Timberline and Fusion season pass holders and Timberline lift ticket holders who bought their tickets online.

The Mt. Hood Express shuttle runs between City of Sandy to Timberline Lodge. Theres also a bunch of shuttle services. To check all of your transportation options, use the Get There trip planning tool, which is offered for free by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Exterior views of Timberline Lodge were used in The Shining , Stanley Kubrick‘s film adaptation of the Stephen King‘s 1977 novel set at the fictional Overlook Hotel. The staff and owners were concerned guests would be reluctant to stay in Room 217 if it were featured in a horror movie the management requested the room number be changed to the fictional Room 237.:162

Television

Brief exterior views of a snowy Timberline Lodge were used as a stand-in for a “Bavarian Ski Resort” in multiple episodes of Hogan’s Heroes. Director Boris Sagal was killed in an accident on the third day of filming the NBC-TV miniseries World War III , after he walked into the tail rotor blades of a helicopter in Timberline Lodge’s parking lot.

Summit Pass Lift Ticket Pricing

Summit Pass lift tickets area valid only at Timberline’s beginner ski and snowboard area in Government Camp. These tickets may be upgraded at Guest Services for full access to all of Timberline’s terrain.

• Lift tickets DO NOT need to be purchased in advance of your visit.
