The general rule for auctions is that the highest bidder wins, and cancellation is not possible. Check with the auction site ahead of time to find out if you can cancel a bid.

Each auction website operates differently. In some cases, the government agency itself runs the auctions. In other cases, the agency operates the shopping site, but a third-party company handles the auction itself.

Find out what forms of payment auctions accept. There is no uniform payment policy across all the different auctions. Some auctions accept credit card payments or personal checks. Others, such as the Internal Revenue Service , don’t accept either of these. Most auctions accept cashier’s checks.

For real estate auctions, you may need to work with a broker or real estate agent to bid or make the purchase. Also, for real estate auctions, find out if financing is permitted. Many times it is not and the full purchase price is due when you win the bid.
Auction & Surplus Items
- City-owned property, real or personal, which has been retired from service and no future need of same property is anticipated.
- All abandoned, stolen or recovered property of every kind unclaimed with the Police Department for a period of 60 days and bicycles unclaimed for a period of 30 days.
- Property seized by the Police Department and no longer of use to the department.
Government Sales Of Seized Property/assets
Several government agencies sell items to the public through both live and online auctions. These auctions, especially online ones, let you purchase government-owned assets across the country and U.S.-owned territories. Agencies sell many types of items such as vehicles, computers, and real estate.
Government agencies have these items for sale for several reasons. Some law enforcement agencies sell the seized or forfeited property of criminals. Other agencies sell items that were forfeited because of the nonpayment of federal income taxes.

Government Property For Sale Or Disposal
GSA frequently has surplus personal property and real property which it makes available for sale or lease by qualified parties.
Furniture and equipment such as appliances, wall hangings, technological devices, and the relocation expenses for such property.
Real Property relates to land and structures on that land, and includes undeveloped land, office buildings military holdings and more.

Surplus Items For Sale
The County Purchasing Agent is responsible for disposition of surplus items and equipment in accordance with statutory requirements. The County Fixed Asset Team is located in the Purchasing Department and shall evaluate replacement or repair alternatives and make recommendations to the Purchasing Agent for approval prior to sale or transfer.
Bexar County departments, offices, and the public may participate in the purchase of used County personal property through the Purchasing Agent – items such as vehicles, tools, machinery, or office equipment are most often available. The Purchasing Agent does not guarantee the condition of the items. County departments, offices, and the public have an opportunity to inspect property prior to sale, and the Purchasing Agent will inform a customer of any deficiencies of which the Purchasing Agent is aware. However, the Purchasing Agent is not responsible for any problems that may be identified after the sale. The Purchasing Agent conducts sealed bid, auction, and fixed price sales.
The Purchasing Agent provides used personal surplus property to County departments, offices, and the public as it becomes available. The Purchasing Department has no set schedule for making County surplus items available.
