The Town of Mocksville is cleaning out and offering surplus items by electronic auction at www.GovDeals.com/mocksvillenc. GovDeals online marketplace provides services to government, educational, and related entities for the sale of surplus assets to the public.

The Town uses GovDeals to dispose of surplus property because this format allows anyone to bid on items from their own home and this tends to bring in more money as a result. The Town uses funds from the sale of surplus property to fund operations and this helps keep the tax rate low, said Town Manager Ken Gamble.

The selling of surplus items is in accordance with North Carolina G.S. 160A-270 and in compliance with the finance policy.

Surplus Sale: Govdeals Auction Goes Public Through Wednesday As Government Agencies Clean House

If youve been daydreaming of loading up, on the cheap, on tons of random goodies that your state government simply doesnt know what to do with, then the next few days might just come as an early Christmas present.

Thats because theres an online auction going on at GovDeals.com one organized by the Surplus Property Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs , and its a virtual grab bag of surplus property, confiscated items, and other assets that still have plenty of value just not while theyre taking up space in state storage.

From now until Wednesday, Sept. 8, members of the public can apply to become authorized bidders on everything from trucks and vans to laptops and power tools. Therere even miscellaneous, all-in-one lot buys one-price purchases that net you all the items in a single bundled assortment.

Think all those forsaken personal bits left behind at baggage claim and youll have the right idea. In addition to property no longer needed by state and federal agencies, ADECA acquires items abandoned voluntarily at several airports in the Southeast, the agency explains in a press release.

In other words, public agencies have already gotten first dibs on everything thats on sale at the auction, so theres no ethical worry here that surplus state property isnt being put to its best use.

Surplus State Vehicles & Equipment Auctions

The disposal of used and surplus state vehicles and equipment is done primarily through sales at public auctions. The two public auctions used are:

Dc Surplus Property Auction

The Government of District of Columbia manages the sale of its surplus assets through online auction sales on dcgovt.govdeals.com. The program is managed by the DC Office of Contracting and Procurement , Surplus Property Division, and brings the District a streamlined process that creates a valuable revenue stream and meets the District’s criteria for transparent tracking and real-time reporting on transactions involving surplus property. Online auction items include items such as:

  • Passenger cars and trucks
  • Police, Fire and EMS vehicles
  • Computers and electronic equipment
  • Office furniture and supplies and
  • Evidentiary items including jewelry, cars and other personal property.

The cash flow from the sale of the District’s surplus assets will be deposited directly back into the treasury and re-allocated to departments and programs within the government. The additional revenue will enable the District to more effectively address and meet the expectations of taxpayers.

TERMS: Fill out bid paddle registration form and take it to the cashier window along with picture identification to receive bid paddle. Payment in full is required before winning bidder may take possession of items won.

NON PAYMENT: If winning bid participant fails to submit payment in full for his/her auction purchases by due date that person or that person’s representative will be required to put a deposit of $1,000 in the form of a Cashier’s Check to participate in future auctions. Deposit can be applied to the auction purchases or will be refunded if no winning bids are made.

FINAL PAYMENTS: VISA, MasterCard, Discover, Cashier’s Check , Money Order . Cashier’s check and Money Orders must be made out to Department of General Services. Payment in full is due before 3:00 p.m. on the Wednesday after the auction date. No partial payments are accepted.

PICK UP: All items must be picked up before 3:00 p.m. of the Wednesday after the auction date. An additional $100.00 storage fee will be charged for each additional business day pick-up is late, up to four days. After that fourth day, all items will be forfeited.
