Tow Impound And Police Auctions In Texas
The links below are police seizure, government surplus, and towing/wrecker impound auctions around the state of Texas. All of these are open to the public. These auctions are held less frequently than typical public auto auctions in Texas. Tow and police auctions are usually held monthly or quarterly, unlike wholesale car auctions that are more frequent. Visit the website for the auction you are interested in for more information on vehicle inventory and when the next auction will be held. Be sure to visit the website before contacting the auction because the information you need may already be provided.
Most of these cars are government surplus vehicles, police seizures, and tow impound abandoned cars for sale. Most of these are not wrecked these are not salvage auctions but they may occasionally have salvage vehicles available. These auctions also occasionally feature used police cars for sale.
Most locations have online police auctions that allow the public to bid on cars online.
How A Government Seized Car Auction Works
Law enforcement has the ability to seize or confiscate the property of criminals, or property used by criminals or their associates for the purpose of conducting illegal activity. For example, a person convicted of drug trafficking or the selling of stolen property will forfeit their vehicles and any other property that is used to perpetuate illegal activity or was obtained by the proceeds of that illegal activity. When a vehicle is seized, it’s held by the agency until the time of auction.
Bidding and BuyingBids can be made online for Internet auctions, or in person for live auctions. Accepted forms of payment typically are major credit cards and checks, and payment is due at the time of the close of the auction. Details may vary among auction houses and the state the auction is held in. As with all auctions, the vehicle is sold to the highest bidder.

Police Car Potato Peeler Also For Sale
The government is also selling a 2009 white Ford Crown Victoria, referred to as a police interceptor.
“Rear doors do not open from the inside,” the description of the ex-police car reads. “Vehicle starts with a boost and runs.”
The car, which is in Edmonton, also has a cracked windshield and a variety of other scrapes and scratches. The minimum bid is $900.
Among surplus goods for sale is a commercial-sized potato peeler formerly located at the Kingston Penitentiary.
And, If you’ve ever wondered what exactly a mass spectrometer is, the government auction site is offering up a broken one among some other scientific equipment.
In one lot, available for a minimum bid of $180, the mass spectrometer comes with a cloud condensation nuclei counter and some other items. They’re available for pickup only in Toronto, and are being sold for parts.
The goods also include an opal ring, which the site says was seized by the government, and a designer purse valued at $2,200 that has a minimum required bid of $650.
Why Are Vehicles Sold At Government Auctions
Ex-government, ex-police, and confiscated vehicles are sold at auction for the same reason any vehicles are sold at auction, which is convenience. Of course, these vehicles could be sold for higher prices if they were sold on lots or through Autotrader, etc. The thing is, it would take huge resources and much more time and effort to sell each vehicle individually to retail buyers.
Even if they were sold for considerably more than they go for at auction, the extra costs involved with selling to retail would be higher than the extra money raised. This is why you get the chance to bag a bit of a bargain buying from an auction.

The Government Is Auctioning Off Cheap Items In Ontario Here’s What’s For Sale
The federal government is auctioning off a wide variety of items in Ontario, including everything from cars to old office chairs, and some have discounted prices.
The website, GCSurplus, features a long list of items. More items get added with time. Bids have started on some, while others are still waiting for offers.
The government provides details about a few of the items, including their condition and where they came from.
Here are some items on the list and the prices they are currently going for:
Apple MacBook A990 Pro 15-Inch
- This laptop is currently going for $2,085. The bid was initially set for a minimum of $750. The bidding war will end on March 23. The laptop is unused and in its original packing. The item was forfeited to the Crown.

- This treadmill is currently going for $340, and bidding ends on March 23. Its not clear how the government acquired the item. It was initially going for a minimum bid of $300.
Large wooden desk
- This wooden desk currently has no bids on it. The minimum bid that can be offered for it is $30 and its auction ends on March 23. The desk is described as scratched, chipped and may require cleaning.
Office chairs
- The current bid for the five red office chairs is $50. Like the other items, the bidding war ends on March 23. The minimum bid was also set for $50.

Some of the vehicles that are the most interesting to those looking for a bargain at government auctions are those that have been seized or confiscated from criminals or criminal enterprises. There are many reasons why the police and feds seize vehicles and the diversity of vehicles confiscated can be staggering.
A lot of vehicles seized will be fairly run-of-the-mill models such as Fusions, Malibus, Escapes, Regals, and the like.
