How To Get A Free Air Conditioner

Not only the government but various other sources too can help you get a free air conditioner. These sources might not be renowned non-profit organizations or known governmental agencies, but they can still help you with free ac units for your house.

  • Churches:As weird as it may sound, but it is true. You can get financial assistance for air conditioning from your local church. You can get yourself free ac units through the funds provided by these faith-based organizations. Many generous donors provide a benevolent amount of donation in the form of money and in some cases, some resources are also donated.

These resources might include free ac units as well. If not, then you can reach out to the church in your locality to ask for financial assistance for air conditioning from them. They might provide you the said financial assistance for air conditioning directly if the funds are sufficient but it might also happen that due to the lack of funds they might refer you to a local organization that is ready to help. You would have to attend a couple of sermons as well to get the required free ac units.

Federal Tax Credits Then And Now

In 2009, homeowners were facing falling real estate values that put many underwater on their mortgage. Congress and the President passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to offer some relief.

The Act included significant tax credits for the installation of energy efficient residential and commercial HVAC equipment, solar and wind energy equipment and even some building materials that improved a homes energy efficiency. You could get the equipment at a discount, and then enjoy lower energy bills too. It made sense.

Are federal HVAC tax credits still in effect?

Yes: for geothermal heat pumps, solar and wind are in effective until December 31, 2021.

No: Federal tax credits for standard heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces and boilers have ended.

    What Is A Seer Rating

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is a measure of an A/Cs average annual cooling efficiency. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the unit.

    Heating & Cooling Equipment Rebates

Did you know that heating and cooling costs the average homeowner about $875 a year – nearly half of the home’s energy bill? If your heating or cooling system is more than 12 years old, it is probably time to replace it with a new, properly sized unit.

New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program offers incentives for the purchase of energy efficient, qualifying heating and cooling equipment. Rebates are available for the purchase of furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, water heaters, ductless mini-split systems and central air conditioners.

    Make the Right Choice

Consider hiring a properly trained contractor. NATE certified or Building Performance Institute GoldStar contractors are highly skilled and will install your cooling systems bringing you peace of mind and comfort. Visit the Eastern Heating and Cooling Council’s website for a current list of NATE certified contractors or review the list of BPI GoldStar contractors. We recommend obtaining at least three price quotes before selecting a contractor. Bids should include costs for labor, materials, permits/fees and disposal.

    Properly Sized Equipment

Most heating and cooling equipment is significantly oversized. Buying a system sized properly for your home provides more comfort and efficiency, while maximizing your investment. When making a replacement, simply updating your system with the same size equipment may not give you the best results. Ask your contractor to recommend the proper size equipment for your home.

How Do I Know Which Units Qualify

To help Canadians choose more efficient air conditioners and furnaces, the federal government introduced the EnerGuide labelling system. This label can be mandatory or voluntary, depending on the product, and is applied voluntarily to central air conditioning units and furnaces.

To choose a high-efficiency furnace or central air conditioning unit, simply look for the EnerGuide logo and then assess the sliding bar. The black inverted triangle shows you where on this scale this unit lands, with more efficient units landing closer to the left-hand side of the scale, and less efficient units landing closer to the right.

High-efficiency air conditioners and furnaces are typically more expensive than their less efficient counterparts but save you money over time by reducing your energy consumption. To help more Ontarians switch to more efficient units, the provincial government offer rebates to qualified individuals who take the necessary steps.

  • The Victorian Government Has Announced $1000 Rebates To Encourage Householders To Purchase Energy Efficient Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners

The rebate is directed at Victorias most vulnerable residents to replace old heater with air conditioners in homes managed by community housing organisations.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily DAmbrosio said the Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program is now open for community housing organisations to apply for rebates on behalf of their residents.

This is an important step in the Labor Governments $335 million investment over four years to provide efficient, lower-cost heating and cooling for 250,000 low-income and vulnerable Victorian households, DAmbrosio said.

The government also announced that any owner-occupied household with a concession card, or with a combined household income of less than $90,000 can apply for their $1,000 rebate directly from Solar Homes Victoria, from July this year.

As well as the rebate to install efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners, an additional $200 is available to cap old gas heaters to ensure they are safe when they are no longer being used, and $500 for households that need to upgrade their outdated electrical switchboard, so that this can work safely with these new appliances.

By replacing outdated, unsafe or inefficient electric, gas and wood-fired heaters with energy-efficient systems that provide heating and cooling, the government is increasing liveability and comfort levels in the homes of disadvantaged Victorians and helping them save money, the Minister said.
