Government Grants For Tree Planting

Don't Miss

Use Of The Donations:

Government called upon to fund tree planting projects

The funds we receive in the national headquarters office over the course of the year are pooled and distributed annually toward selected projects. We fund projects where the greatest reforestation need exist. We cannot predict where these areas will be from one year to the next. These are usually areas where fires or other natural disturbance events have resulted in the need to plant trees. Donated funds will be used to plant trees on National Forests throughout the United States. Trees will be of a size and species suitable to the location. The number of trees planted with a given donation will vary because of varying costs at different locations. Trees will not be individually identified on the ground, but will be partof a plantation planted for reforestation purposes. Such plantations will be managed for multiple uses, the same as other National Forest lands. If you want your donation to go only to a specific national forest, you may contact the forest directly to make your contribution.

Tree Resource Enhancement And Engagement Grants

The 2021 Tree Resource Enhancement and Engagement Grant applicaton period has closed

TREE is a competitive, cost-share tree care program administered by the Department of Forestry and Fire Management’s Urban and Community Forestry Program in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service State and Private Forestry program. The grant program provides reimbursement of $1,500 to $5,000 to assist currently recognized Tree City USA communities and Tree Campus USA campuses with the management, improvement, or conservation of community trees.

Projects eligible for TREE funding include tree planting to reach canopy cover goals, tree inventory, removal or pruning of hazardous trees, tree ordinance review/ development, and training of volunteers and city/county employees to best care for our community forests.

Applicants must submit a completed application form that details project costs and funding sources, includes a map/ drawing of the project site, and a five-year maintenance plan for plantings.

Projects are selected on a competitive basis. A panel of judges assesses each proposal for its value to the community, thoroughness as a tree-management program and the ability to promote, improve and develop a community’s urban forest, and economic feasibility.

Billion Trees Over 10 Years Is One Part Of Our Commitment To Nature

The 2 Billion Trees program aims to motivate and support new tree planting projects. Over a period of 10 years, by 2031, up to $3.2 billion will be invested in tree planting efforts to support provinces, territories, third-party organizations and Indigenous organizations to plant two billion trees across Canada.

National Forest: Government Funds Planting Of More Trees

More than £2m of government funding is to be spent on planting trees in the National Forest.

The 200 sq mile forest spans parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire

More than 200 hectares of new habitats were created in the forest last year, with the planting of 200,000 trees.

The National Forest Company said the funding would enable them to continue creating green and wooded spaces and new wildlife habitats.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is spending £44.2m from its Nature for Climate Fund on expanding woodland.

The NFC – which is responsible for the National Forest – is to receive £2.4m of that money.

Significant progress has already been made in the National Forest over the last 30 years.

The NFC said it had planted over nine million trees and increased forest cover from 6% to 22%.

Last year its biggest area of planting was at Minorca Woods near Measham, Leicestershire.

More than 77,000 trees were planted at the former mining site, including silver birch, rowan, hazel and wild cherry.

Others, like broadleaved trees and conifers, were also chosen for their ability to absorb carbon quickly.

The NFC said local school children have helped with planting trees, including 1,000 field maple, silver birch, alder and oak trees in Ratby, Leicestershire.

Government Launches New Scheme To Boost Tree

£50 million Woodland Carbon Guarantee scheme will encourage farmers and landowners to plant more trees and help to tackle climate change

    From:
    4 November 2019

The government today launched a £50 million scheme to help boost tree-planting rates in the fight against climate change.

The new Woodland Carbon Guarantee will encourage farmers and landowners to plant more trees and create new woodland in return for payments as those trees grow.

It gives land managers in England the long-term financial income they need to invest in carbon sequestration – the process by which trees lock up and store carbon from the atmosphere.

Successful participants will be offered the option to sell Woodland Carbon Units to the government over 35 years at a guaranteed price set by auction, providing new income for land managers who help businesses compensate for their carbon emissions.

Forestry and Climate Adaptation Minister Zac Goldsmith said:

Woodland creation is an excellent way to help combat the effects of climate change.

The Woodland Carbon Guarantee means that now – more than ever – there is no reason to delay planting trees.

Sir Harry Studholme, Chair of the Forestry Commission, said:

Government-appointed Tree Champion Sir William Worsley said:

To apply for the Woodland Carbon Guarantee, land managers need to register their projects with the Woodland Carbon Code – the voluntary standard for UK woodland creation projects where claims are made about the carbon dioxide they sequester.

Virginia Trees For Clean Water Grant Program

The Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant Program is established to encourage the creation of long-term, sustained canopy cover to improve water quality across the Commonwealth. England Woodland Creation Offer

Is the government failing the UK’s forests?

Our England Woodland Creation Offer recognises the social and environmental benefits of woodlands. It offers financial incentives to help you plant the right tree, in the right place, for the right reason.

From creating large mixed woodlands, to a strip of trees along a riverbank, you just need a hectare of land. And that can be made up of smaller plots from 10m wide and 0.1 hectares for some projects.

The grant covers standard capital costs up to £8,500 per hectare for tree planting. This includes buying saplings and installing fences or other protection. It could also cover costs associated with natural colonisation. Thats where you encourage trees to establish from naturally dispersed seeds.

Get extra money for woodland creation that benefits people. You could get paid to increase public access to your land or to plant trees close to communities.

And theres more money for woodland creation that benefits wildlife and improves nature recovery. You can also get funding to grow trees that help reduce flood risk or improve water quality.

Each of the extra payments could be worth from £400 to £2,800 per hectare.

Well also contribute £300 per hectare towards maintenance costs for up to 10 years. And you could generate extra, long-term income through carbon credits. Thats a way to sell the carbon that gets locked up by your trees.
