When a pioneering group of local and regional governments founded ICLEI, they took action before sustainability was widely viewed as fundamental to development. For decades, our efforts have continued to put sustainability at the top of the agenda for local and regional governments across the world. Over time, ICLEI has expanded and developed, and we are now working in over 125 countries, with global experts in more than 24 offices.

Through our collective efforts to build a sustainable urban world, ICLEI is shifting the trajectory of global development.

This project will help municipalities engage residents in their local climate action planning progress by:

  • Designing municipally-supported volunteer engagement programs
  • Identifying collaborators and stakeholders in within their communities
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers
  • Developing and delivering training programs for volunteers
  • Providing $15,000 to each participating municipality to support the hard costs of program set-up

Circle Lab For Cities Program Launches Ganbatte An Online Platform Providing 6000 Cities With Data And Circularity Solutions

After a year of development and piloting, the Circle Lab for Cities program is proud to announce the launch of Ganbatte the first online platform providing key data insights and proven solutions on circular economy for more than 6000 cities worldwide.

Ganbatte: A digital platform supporting the planning of practical circular economy solutions at local level

Ganbatte aims to provide every city with the necessary data, knowledge and tools to achieve their climate goals through the circular transition. Developed by Circle Economy in collaboration with ICLEI, Ganbatte offers data insights into cities sectoral consumption, emissions and employment for more than 6000 cities worldwide and provides them with the knowledge and tools to start their circular journey.

Cities are leading and will continue to lead the transition towards a circular economy through innovation and collaboration. Ganbatte aims to support and accelerate the global transition of cities, by facilitating access to knowledge and insights that inform decision-making and enable cities to learn from each other. Water Purity And Availability

The New York City drinking water supply is extracted from the protected . As a result of the watershed’s integrity and undisturbed natural system, New York is one of only four major cities in the United States the majority of whose drinking water is pure enough not to require purification through plants. The city’s municipal water system is the largest in the United States, moving over one billion gallons of water per day a leak in the Delaware aqueduct results in some 20 million gallons a day being lost under the Hudson River. The north of the city is undergoing construction of a $3.2 billion water purification plant to augment New York City’s water supply by an estimated 290 million gallons daily, representing a greater than 20% addition to the city’s current availability of water. The ongoing expansion of , an integral part of the New York City water supply system, is the largest capital construction project in the city’s history, with segments serving Manhattan and the Bronx completed, and with segments serving Brooklyn and Queens planned for construction in 2020. In 2018, New York City announced a $1 billion investment to protect the integrity of its water system and to maintain the purity of its unfiltered water supply.
