Residents Can Still Contact 311 To Schedule A Bulk Pick Up

DPW collects large, bulky items by appointment from residential households that receive DPW trash collection service. These households include single-family homes and residential buildings with three or fewer living units. Apartment buildings with four or more units, condominiums, co-ops and other commercial properties must have their bulk items removed by a private, licensed hauler. Request A Special Collection

We offer a special collection service for residents in the district to remove large bulky household waste items such as beds, chairs, fridges and washing machines. All food must be removed from fridges and freezers or they will not be taken.

It is not for house, garage or property refurbishment clearances. You will need to use firms who supply this waste service or charities.

When booking a special collection the items must be placed at the boundary of your property. If you are unable to place the items at the boundary we will not be able to offer you this service.

All items registered for collection must be put out for collection at the boundary of the property by 7am on the day of collection.

If you live in a flat please leave your items either:

• Outside the communal entrance door
• In the communal bin area
• Or in your own parking space in a communal car park

Brush And Bulk Service Is On Schedule

Brush and bulk crews are currently working in Area 1 for the week of October the 3rd. Please have your brush andbulk piles out for collection by 5:00 a.m. on Monday.

REMINDER: To stay on schedule, our brush and bulk crews will only collect the designated pile size amount of 10′ long by 6′ wide by 4′ tall. Any material that exceeds that amount will not be collected and will be the resident’s responsibility to remove the remaining material. The Residential Landfill Program is also available for brush and bulk disposal.

Brush and Bulk collection is a week long service starting on the:Monday of your collection week and ending on Friday.

How Do I Arrange A Collection

Fill in the online form and pay the fee. Please note that a maximum of ten items can be collected per request.

There are 2 ways you can submit a form – via the customer portal or as a guest.

If you have a MyHuntingdonshire customer portal account or would like to create one, click on the Book a Collection via the Customer Portal button below, sign in or register, then scroll down to the ‘Bins and Waste – Residential Bulky Waste’ form. Your personal details will be filled in for you and you will be able to track the progress of your requests and save partially completed forms.

You can also submit a form as a guest. However, you will not be able to track or receive feedback on your request. Also, our customer services team will only be able to provide limited support if you submit your form outside of the customer portal.

Each area has a collection day and you will be advised of this when you book. It’s not possible to give you an exact collection time within the day. You will need to put any items booked for collection at a single point on the edge of your property, next to the public highway, the night before your arranged collection day.

Please note that our collection crew cannot remove the items to be collected from your house or garden unless you are eligible for assistance. Please make sure the items are placed at the edge of your property.

Fort Totten Transfer Station To Close After April 2 For Six Months Of Repairs

Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis Georges office shared information about the upcoming temporary closure of the Fort Totten Transfer Station.

After , Fort Totten Transfer Station will close for approximately six months of repairs to improve the quality of the stormwater runoff generated at the site. During this period, bulk and residential drop-will be moved to Benning Road Transfer state on Wednesday-Friday from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

As the DC Department of Public Works strives to improve our facilities, April 2, 2022, will be the last day the Fort Totten transfer station will be open for bulk and residential drop-off until the completion of our capital improvement project.

DPW has received a stormwater management grant to improve the quality of the runoff stormwater generated by the bulk trash and citizens drop-off areas exposed to the weather at the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station. Based on the required renovations, this location will not be available for residential drop-off until the Fall of 2022.

Household Hazardous Waste drop-off will continue Saturdays from 7 am until 2 pm. Shredding will take place on the first Saturday of every month from 7 am until 2 pm.

Take bulk, trash and recycling items to the Benning Road Transfer Station, 3200 Benning Rd., NE. The entrance to the facility is at the intersection of Benning Road and Anacostia Avenue NE, at the Kenilworth Maintenance Yard signage.

9 DAY RULE – Residents may place bulk/brush out for collection no sooner than 9 days prior to the Monday of scheduledcollections week.

• Cut tree limbs into 6-foot segments and stacked neatly so that all cut ends point in the same direction.
• Tree limbs and other objects must be less than 12 inches in diameter.
• Wood panels and wood fencing must be no larger than 5 feet square.
• Keep glass separate from other items, in small, sturdy cardboard boxes and clearly labeled. Boxes should be 2x2x2 or smaller.
• Place yard clippings in plastic bags. Bags must be securely tied.
• Place cacti in sturdy closed boxes with lids. Boxes should be 2x2x2 or smaller.
• Our crews will only remove large debris. The equipment we use often leaves behind small debris, which is the homeowners responsibility to cleanup
• Do not place bulk trash on or within four feet of city-owned containers or bins, water meters, cable boxes, fire hydrants, block walls or other fixed objects

Cancelling Or Amending Your Booking

You can amend or cancel your bulky collection up to 3pm on the working day before your collection by telephoning our Call Centre on . If we are not able to collect your items for any reason, for example, lack of access or your items have already been taken, we will not be able to offer a refund. This is because we will be unable to fill the slot, and will have incurred staffing, vehicle and fuel costs to attend your property.

New Curbside Bulky Trash Collection

Prince Georges County is proud to announce a faster and improved curbside bulky trash pickup that will allow residents receiving County-contracted trash and recycling collection services to set out two bulky items or two tightly secured bags with small household items per week NEXT to their trash can on their regular collection days. The best part — NO APPOINTMENTS ARE NEEDED! Residents who only pay for bulky trash services will continue to schedule through PGC311.

The new service began on February 14, 2022, and is one of the County’s Clear the Curb Waste Collection programs designed to help keep Prince George’s County clean, healthy, and sustainable. All collection services are provided to residents receiving County-contracted services or who pay a fee for bulky trash removal. These services include regular trash, recycling, food scraps composting , yard trim, and the improved bulky trash collection program.

Some items, such as scrap tires and white goods, including refrigerators, air conditioners, washers, dryers, and other appliances, will still need to be scheduled for pickup through PGC311.

Residents are reminded to adhere to their current HOA or civic association rules and regulations regarding trash and recycling placed in public areas.

Mattresses and box springs delivered to the Landfill by residents will not be required to be covered in the protective encasement.

Residential Bulk Trash Now Picked Up At Same Point As Regular Trash

Effective immediately, residents making appointments for bulk trash collection will again be able to set out large or bulky items, such as mattresses and furniture, at the same place that their regular trash is collected.For part of this year, the Department of Public Works suspended alley collection due to resident complaints that the large trucks used to pick up bulk items often damaged their property. Only curbside collection was allowed from March 6 through early October.

People didnt like having their homes and fences damaged, but they also didnt like having to put their bulk items out front if they normally have alley trash collection, DPWs Deputy Director of Operations Michael Carter said. DPW has ordered several new lift-gate trucks for bulk collection. Until those arrive, the department will use older trash trucks with a narrower profile to fit through the alleys.

Bulk trash is collected by appointment from households that already receive DPW trash and recycling service. To make an appointment for a bulk trash pick up, residents should simply call the Citywide Call Center at 727-1000. After taking your information, the Citywide Call Center service representative will give you a collection date and a confirmation number. Citywide Call Center representatives will also ask if callers have alley or curbside collection.
