KCK restaurants eligible for grants

The SBIF supports small businesses repairing or remodeling their location, whether by updating windows and floors, replacing signage, or purchasing nearby property to expand into. Note that youâd receive this matching grant after completing and paying for your remodeling, so be cautiousâplenty of other businesses are likely competing for small business grants like these.

Hoping To Keep Paying A Living Wage

For Amanda AJ Dixon, who owns the casual fine dining restaurant Lazy Susan MKE in Milwaukee, the RRF grant will make a big difference in her goal of paying her staff a living wage.

Dixon received two PPP loans totaling $88,000 as well as a $92,000 Economic Injury Disaster Loan, which has helped her restaurant stay afloat over the past year with a skeleton crew of seven, down from 12 staffers before the pandemic.

If her RRF application is approved, Dixon plans to use the $33,000 grant she would get to help with payroll from June through December, and she also may use some of it to cover the $10,000 she spent to build out a wooden patio over a street parking spot to accommodate outdoor diners.

For most of the pandemic, Lazy Susan MKE only provided a daily four-course dinner for takeout. But the plan is to open to in-person dining in June.

Dixons restaurant normally seats 45 people indoors, but under current pandemic restrictions in Milwaukee she will only be able to seat 22, so the outdoor dining space will help make up for some of the lost indoor seats.

While the pandemic was especially tough on Dixons psyche given that her 7-year-old restaurant was on track to have its best year in 2020, she said the experience has made her a better business owner and employer.

Small Business Technology Transfer Program

The STTR program is similar to the SBIR but the emphasis is more on establishing public and private sector partnerships in research and development. This government grant for small businesses creates opportunities for small businesses to collaborate on joint ventures with the nations leading nonprofit organizations. The products produced are commercialized and some, or all, of the profits given to the small business. Like the SBIR program, any small business that receives the grant must complete three phases to receive the full grant award.

Statement Regarding Ontario Covid

Restaurants Canada appreciates the Ontario governments plans to re-introduce a COVID-19 small business support grant, but it falls well short of the needs of the industry.

The restriction to businesses with fewer than 100 employees is unfair to restaurants. The restaurant industry is more labour intensive and dependent on part-time employees than any other industry. Many small businesses will not qualify despite size and need.

The grant will help, but it will not provide the support many need to keep their businesses running. We need targeted, significant funding that will keep businesses afloat. There is no reason to delay the money until February. Businesses need to pay bills now.

We still need a ban on the evictions so that restaurants are not locked out of their buildings when the lockdown is over. We have heard nothing on this request, or the need to defer HST remittances to help businesses pay their bills now.

The government needs to sit down with us as soon as possible to find ways to ensure restaurants are able to reopen, and stay open, after January 26th.

Search For Minority Grants

Minority-owned companies generate more than $1.8 trillion in revenue each year, according to The Business Journals. Furthermore, they employ over 6.3 million people, supporting the local economy. The number of African-owned businesses increased by 34%, and the number of Asian-owned companies grew by 22% over the past decade. Considering these facts, it’s not surprising that minority grants are widely available.

If you fall into any of these categories, consider applying for a minority grant. The Minority Business Development Agency, for example, provides customized business development solutions and connects entrepreneurs with government agencies and private investors. Members can also enter grant competitions in nearly every major city. Make sure you also check Grants.gov, which features dozens of funding programs aimed at minority business owners.

Another example is the First Nations Development Institute, which has offered over 1,600 grants worth more than $34.9 million in 2019 alone. The organization has been around since 1980, providing grant opportunities for native Hawaiians, Native Americans and Alaska natives. Candidates are required to submit a detailed summary of their organization, including its mission, accomplishments and projects. They must also prove their ability to run a sustainable business and use the grant to make a difference in their communities.

An owner of a business seeking financial help may qualify for a government grant. The best thing about a grant: The money does not have to be paid back. The most challenging part: qualifying for one. Each government grant has specific eligibility requirements. While most grants are only offered to state officials and organizations that carry out a public purpose, there are often grants for small businesses whose services satisfy a public need. For example, the only restaurant in an up-and-coming area or a type of restaurant that targets the minority population in the community could qualify for a government grant. The only way to know is to search through available opportunities.

    Corporate Small Business Grants

Government grants for small businesses are great, but the requirements are often hyper-specific, or the funding amounts arent that large. Big corporations, on the other hand, will often provide small business grants to contest winners. For you, its money to grow your business. For them, itâs a PR win, netting loyal corporate customers and a lot of goodwill.

The difference here is that many corporate-sponsored small business grants involve pitch competitions or something similar. Not all do, of course, but youâll want to be aware that applying to a corporate grant might involve more work. With that, though, comes the potential for publicityâand for runner-up prizes if you dont win first prize.

Additional Debt Relief For Sba Loans

As a part of the CARES Act, SBA is authorized to pay 6 months of principal, interest, and any associated fees that borrowers owe for all 7, 504, and Microloans reported in regular servicing status . This debt relief to borrowers was originally dependent on the loan being fully disbursed prior to September 27, 2020 and does not apply to loans made under the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program.

These original provisions were amended on December 27, 2020 through the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profits and Venues Act . The Economic Aid Act revised the eligibility criteria for assistance to include all 7, 504, and Microloans approved up to September 27, 2020 even if not fully disbursed. All other provisions for initial debt relief remained the same.

Borrowers need not apply for this assistance. SBA provides this assistance automatically as provided below:

    • For loans not on deferment, SBA will make monthly payments based on the next payment due on eligible loans for a total amount equivalent to no more than 6 months of installment payments.
    • For loans currently on deferment, SBA will begin making monthly payments with the first payment due after the deferment period ends for a total amount equivalent to no more than 6 months of installment payments.

    Additional Debt Relief Assistance

The initiatives described above are limited to the level of available funding provided by Congress.

We increased the Employer Health Tax exemption from $490,000 to $1 million starting in 2020.

Along with doubling the exemption, we doubled the instalment threshold from $600,000 to $1.2 million starting with the 2021 tax year.

As an employer, this means additional EHT relief of up to $9,945 per year, for a total of up to $19,500 in annual EHT savings per eligible employer.

The annual tax return form is not changing. Only the amount that you enter for the exemption claimed will change. Tax rates and eligibility criteria for the tax exemption remain the same.

In 2021, all employers will begin remitting monthly instalments when their annual payroll exceeds $1.2 million.

If your business no longer needs to make instalment payments or file an EHT return as a result of the increased exemption amount or instalment threshold, you do not need to notify the Ministry of Finance.

Government Grants For Small Businesses In 2021

Daymond John, renowned Shark Tank investor, once said, No matter what business youre in, business is business and financing and money are critical.

Business financing is often a sore point for small business owners because it is difficult to acquire. Get a loan and pay high interest rates. Get an investor and reduce your equity. The gains of sourcing financing can be lost when the stakes are so high.

Thankfully, small business grants provide a solution that removes the risks associated with high interest rates and lost equity.

Restaurant Owners Plead For Congresss Help After Omicron Surge

Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., the main sponsor of the bill, and Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., said Thursday that more than 80 percent of restaurants that didn’t receive grants have reported that they are on the verge of permanent closure, citing a survey from the Independent Restaurant Coalition. They said at least 90,000 restaurants and bars have closed since the pandemic started more than two years ago.

It’s unclear whether Democrats in the evenly split Senate will be able to win over at least 10 Republicans to overcome the 60-vote threshold to end any potential filibuster and pass the measure. But with Congress having adjourned for a two-week recess, the bill won’t be considered anytime soon in the Senate.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., splashed cold water on the prospects of the legislation moving forward, comparing it to the stalled Covid relief bill.

“I think right now it’s hard to as you saw, even with the $10 billion package of new money for Covid unless they can reprogram or repurpose it, it’s going to be a hard sell,” he said Thursday afternoon as he exited Capitol.

According to the Small Business Administration, which handles the fund, restaurants and other eligible businesses can receive funding “equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss up to $10 million per business and no more than $5 million per physical location.” In addition to restaurants and bars, eligible businesses include food trucks, bakeries, wineries or breweries and inns.
